I have done a fair bit of gaming on this laptop including PCSX2 and Dolphin. The temps are usually reasonable but for some reason DAO makes it run incredibly hot.

CPU is around 90 and GPU is about 80. Firstly is it safe to play at those temps, I did do so for a few hours and the system never shutdown. Secondly this game is known for this, are there any fixes available?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm really enjoying this game!

DA is much more intense than those emulators. 90 CPU and 80 GPU is within spec for heavy load. What's your specs?

Specs in my sig. Fair enough if those temps are expected but is it safe to be playing at them?

Rather than "safe" you are most likely near thermal throttle territory. If your temps keep rising, your CPU speed will drop accordingly. Have you cleaned your laptop's vents?

My system will be 2 years old in December (which is when the warranty ends). I'll look into get the insides cleaned out as well getting some better thermal paste.

The temp never goes above 92 so it seems like the system is maintaining itself, however is it wise to keep playing at those levels?

    My specs are:

    Lenovo IdeaPad Z510
    Windows 8.1
    Intel i7-4702MQ @ 2.2 GHz
    6 GB DDR3 RAM
    Nvidia GT 740M 1 GB

You're pushing a very weak GPU with a game like this, so temps will be higher.

Can you open the laptop, clean it out and re-paste?

Yeah, that system is going to work super hard to render that game at pretty much any detail level.

Capping my CPU speeds help a lot with its temp (at least for a while). GPU however even on Adaptive performance is still in the high 70s. The game does however run at a high framerate even with V-Sync on.

Will thermal paste make that much of a difference? I've never taken apart a laptop so I'll get a shot to do it.

In that case, it is very possible that your temperature problem stems from lack of maintenance (dust buildup and possibly dried out thermal paste).

For the thermal paste, I'd recommend you use GeLid Extrem or Liquid Ultra.
In the meantime, cleaning out the space between the fan and the air vent is highly recommended (as is cleaning the fan itself and the vent and surrounding areas).

No idea how hard it is to open that laptop and do maintenance. But if you can´t or wont at least get a can of compressed air and blow the crap outa those vents.

Most likely your fan is clogged up with dust and you said your system is close to 2 years old so thats a lot of dust built up. You need to open your system because just using compressed air on the vents will spread almost 2 years of dust around other places inside your system

In your case its pretty simple getting to the fans. All you have to do is to unscrew all of the screws on the bottom casing and the case should come off giving you access to the HDD, RAM, Fans, and other components. Cleaning your vents with compressed air and applying thermal paste on the cpu will greatly bring your temps down.

I have never been good at taking apart laptops and the system is very well condensed so I'm afraid I might mess it up. Either way I am in warranty so I'm sending it away for a check-up. Will update you guys.

    What?
I played DAO on my laptop (240m) without any problems, so 740m is certainly enough for a game like DAO.
And I agree with people who suggest that your laptop needs a bit of cleaning/repaste.

Holy crap I was thinking DA:Inquisition. Haha.. Doh.. Yeah DA:Origins should be a walk in the park.

Nothing really wrong with those temps anyway. They are within spec.
