I hope i post it in the right section.

    2 days ago i exchanged my PC for this gaming laptop: MSI GT70-2OD, i7 4700MQ, GTX780M 4GB, 24GB DDR3L.

I love it, but i noticed right away theres some serious input lag (17-33ms) depending wich game and what kind of FPS i'm getting.

I'm used to capping it to prevent serious input lag, i want to play some taxing games at 30fps, but this makes the mouse feel very unresponsive at 33ms.
Games that run at 60fps or higher i get a decent 16.6ms.

Is there anyway to fix this latency issue when capping games at 30fps?

This might be also on my end, cause i'm coming from a ASUS VG236H gaming monitor with 2ms.
    But 33ms at 30fps i find a bit ridiculous.

Aren't those frame times indicative of those respective frame rates though? If you've got vsync enabled that wouldn't help.

Wait... I don't understand. Why are you caping games at 30 FPS or at 60 FPS (if 60 FPS, likely you are using V-Sync) and then expecting not to get input lag? o_O

What are you using to cap FPS?

I've been using MSI Afterburner to cap my fps. And no i never use vsync in my games.

I always cap my fps to lower input lag, it just seem to make it worse on this laptop.

Lower fps are not lower input lag, higher fps is lower input lag, but it will depend in how you are currently capping your game. Do you get that issue when running uncapped?

You seem to be right, uncapped and 70+ fps gives around 12-13ms response wich feels so much better.

Damn shame, so i'll have to live with 33ms when i run demanding games at 30-40fps? i usually get pretty good mouse response with 30fps capped.

It will depend on the method of fps capping as well as the game. Newer games tend not to be game logic tied to fps but some games are, which result in weird response at different fps than intended.

But aside from slightly choppier performance, you shouldn't expect needlessly high input lag for having lower performance. Are you using vsync with your fps cap? vsync does add input lag.

    No i never use vsync.

I also seem to assume my 780M isn't performing as intended. I'm getting lower performance then others that have the same specs as me.

Have you monitored your CPU, GPU both clocks and % utilization when you game? Also what are you using for reference? a lot of people or videos tend to exaggerate with "MAX SETTINGS 100FPS!" when in reality they reduce 1 or 2 settings, and then some even overclock... so it's not real.

also, very important, are you using your battery installed or did you remove it? The GT60/70 series requires the battery to be inside the laptop an available, as it can draw extra power to provide more for the system in case you really stress it. If you remove it, it may throttle your performance slightly.

Yes i always monitor everything, GPU usage and clocks are all fine.

Some games have low CPU usage though, like ARMA3 etc, wich only uses 25-30% CPU usage. And that game requires alot of CPU power.

And yes i also always have my battery plugged in, and plugged into the power brick etc.

I did manage to fix FPS drops in some games, how i don't know, i think cause i used DDU several times.
