High end X9 or X10 card?

Hi, should i buy a laptop with an high end 7series like the 7950gtx or an x10 card 8800gt when it comes out?
Is there graphically alot of differece with the next gen games ? I hear that X9 runs faster so is there any reason why someone would not want x9 card?

 

Its debatable, 8800gt is suppose to replace the 7950GTX as the highest notebook card. Although the 8800gt is dx10 capable it will struggle at higher resolutions as opposed to the 7950gtx. Either way you go you will be able to play any modern game at high settings (atleast in dx9, don't know about dx10).

 

Actually I think the 8800GT will at least have a 256bit bus, so I would say it destroys the 7950GTX in game benchmarks. 8800GT is indeed Nvidia´s high end DX10 card as opposed to the 8700GT which is middle range. I would be very surprised if the 8800GT would have a 128 bit bus too.

But count the 7950GTX as beaten with the 8800GT. Just look at desktop benchmarks a 8800GT is roughly twice as fast as the fastest Nvidia DX9 card out there, it is almost as fast as the 8800GTX.

 

8800m GTX will be 256 bit, MXM III or IV 32-35w, 256-512MB GDDR3 and the full spec of the 8800GT except with the possiblitity of more unified shaders, though doubtful..

Performance of the 8800GT desktop version actually comes extremely close to, and in some cases equals the performance of the 8800GTX. Nvidia supposably took the 8800GT and simply made it into MXM form factor and added downclocking abilities to it for battery life.

Expect it to be effectively twice the performance of the 7950m GTX as was the 8800GTX more than 2x as powerful as the 7900GTX.

Note that this is still all just speculation, but we shall see for shure coming later this month!

 

That's just it, speculation. As the official announcement for the 8800 specs hasn't been officially released it could conceivably have a 128-bit bus even if everyone on this forum thinks otherwise.

Perhaps the OP should hold off on the laptop purchase until the official announcement is released. That way the choice is more clear-cut.

 

Speculate is fun, though why would Nvidia release another "overclocked 8600GT" though with more shaders. It makes no sense in making another DX10 laptop GPU with a 128bit bus.

 

I'm not Nvidia so I can't answer that, I just think speculation is pointless when the card release is only a few weeks away according to unknown55525. Maybe Nvidia think they can milk the general population for more cash on another mid-range DX10-ready card?

 

Hope not, they need to get the performance up with notebooks too. As it is now not any DX10 card on the notebook market can deliever DX10 in all it´s full glory at higher resolutions.

 

True yes, but we shall see... I think I read somewhere that it's going to be nov 16th or was it nov 18th, anyhow, they're supposably going to release it then.. it's not too far off, just too bad I won't get my hands on one until WELL afer I already buy crysis, COD4, and UT3

Oh, and the 8800m GTX is a direct shink of the 8800GT It keeps all the same specs, except the memory and shaders will be downclocked a bit for mobility reasons.

They're a massive corperation, and one of the world leaders of video cards, they wouldn't do something as stupid as release a card with 128bits but over 100 unified shader units that can't be used because of the crippled memory bus width..

I don't take them for complete idiots..
