COD4, according to steam I have 350+ hours in MW2(surprising with how annoying matchmaking was), but I have played COD4 at least twice as much. Can't get an exact time because I launch cod4 outside of steam.
-
Diablo 2
Unreal tournament 2004
Final fantasy 7,8,10 (console)
TES Morrowind and Oblivion (with expansions)
Probably more but this is what I remember now -

//I really think that is what gives a game true longevity. Open modding tools allow custom user content in the community, and can breathe new life into any game. No matter how great a game is, if you can expect the same things over and over you will become bored. -

Multi player games, I have over 2300 hours on Counter-strike:Source, and about 600 hours on COD4.
As for single player, well I've played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl for probably around 200+ hours, I've beaten the game stock 9 times, and beaten it with a variety of other mods several more times such as the Oblivion Lost mod. And to this day I can still go back to that game, play it through another time and not get bored with it. -
Guild Wars - 60 h/$
CS:S - infinity h/$ -

I had no idea the game was that short - so it is around 20 hours or so for each playthrough? I bought it recently during a Steam sale, but haven't installed it yet. -
Tf2 is probably the best FPS game I have ever played for reasons that would take too long to type.
So how bout them grockets? -
TF2 for me. I got it for free as a gift, have just over 500 hours played.
-
Global Agenda. Over 1000 hours and I paid $50 for it. Some people paid $7.50 for it (sales) and have 500+ hours.
-
easily 100 hours + on original hl + mods + cs don't remember how much i paid for it though....
one game that many may not have every played giants citizen kabuto, i know i had 100 hours because i replayed etc. and if my memory serves me correctly i found it for ~$9 i wish they would remake this game with currently tech -
-
Final Fantasy X, I believe. I constantly have random urges to replay it after long periods of "withdrawal"... I'd say roughly 300-400 hours spent on a $20 game.
-
Counterstrike Source.
Not only did I get the highest hours of gamplay per dollar, but I also had a great time with friends. -
Heh, Counterstrike is way too popular in this thread.
I thought for sure there would be more MMO's in this thread because even with the monthly fee, i know a alot of people who devote a significant amount of time playing them. -
Diablo 2 was probably the most addicting game I've every played, but wouldn't get back at it now. Been playing Guild Wars on my free time, and I think the money was well spent(game wise). I was subscribed to mmorpgs for about a year... and they were not worth the monthly payments.
-
-
TF2, I got it on sale for $2.50 and have played 120 hours of it.
M&B:Warband, Magicka, Oblivion, and Minecraft are also quite good value for money in terms of how long I've played them for.
By far the biggest loser is SC2, which I paid $120 for and I've only played it for about 20-30 hours. Got sick of it after a week. -
Some of the older Pokémon games if we're counting paid for games... (Gold and Sapphire come to mind, easily had over 500 hours on both of those at $30 each)
Otherwise Stepmania and osu! if you want to count free games, I'm pretty sure I've played Stepmania somewhere over 500 hours too, although 'm not too sure about osu. That would be over 200 at least though. -

BC2 over 200 Hours. Well worth it
other but doesnt really qualify with the thread title
FF7 200+ hours
Star Ocean 3 150+ Hours
SC 100+ Hours
COD4 200+ Hours -
How could I forget Quake? Between Quake 3 and OpenArena I spent about 1500+ hours easily. Still today we play OpenArena in our lunch time, because is free and multiplatform (much linux users here)
-
-
TES IV: Oblivion, I have spent quite a few hundreds of hours.
-
-
I put well over 1000+ hrs of gameplay in Warcraft III DotA and other custom games.. Only paid $20 for that with free online play. Can't beat it.
-
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
^^^Generals and Zero Hour are still free to play online and still have a decent amount of players available. Fun, but a lot of cheating too.

).
Another game is GTAIV or San Andreas, so much hours and fun. Saints Row 2 is good as well! The HL2 mod entitled Garry's Mod on Steam is awesome! I have 104 hours played on it! -
Baldur's Gate 2 when I was...12 I think? got that for 15, I must have 300+ hours in that, I've beaten it twice (and all the side quests) and done countless time through it without finishing.
The PC game Shadows of Amn, not to be confused with Dark Alliance 2 which was a respectable console rpg in its own right. -
The Sims 2, paid about $49.99 the day after it's release date. Spent probably 700+ hours, I don't know, but it was back in 2004 and I stopped playing when The Sims 3 was coming around.
Battlefield 1942 The complete collection for $30, probably the last great fps I've played for around 400 hours.
SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition $20came in pretty close. Maybe around 600 hours?
I know those were the most addicting games I played back in the day, EA sure knows how to make a game you can spend your hours on -
Counter Strike 1.6 over 1550 hours for $9.99
Totally worth it -
Starcraft 1($20): I sunk countless hours into this game when my family bought our first PC.
Left 4 Dead ($50 bought at launch): I logged ~70-100 hours per month during the first 3 months. Tapered off to ~30 hours per month for several months after. My wife wasn't too pleased.
Halo 1($50 at launch): Coutless hours playing deathmatch and running through the campaign on legendary with friends.
Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow ($30 each): I'd say I put in about 60-80 hours per game at a minimum. I never did end up with all of them :/ . -

Hmm games I played the longest were probably Unreal Tournament 2004 and if we go with consoles too I played Final Fantasy 7 for a long time.
The sheer number of hours put into the game made the hour/dollar ratio really great.
The game I put the most time in period would easily be world of warcraft, but I think with the monthly fee it would not win out in a ratio of cost to time played. -
Warcraft 3 TFT, probably 1000+ hours into that... $25
Battlefield 2, put maybe 400-500 hours, $5
Lately been playing APB: Reloaded... which is free. Technically you could pay 9$ a month for it for some premium, so it counts. Put ~400 hours in it so far.
-
How about Minecraft?
-
I played EverQuest. My main was a Ranger and I had over 400 days played.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Personally, I probably got more bang for my buck out of Diablo 2 way back in the day than anything in the current era, but per my Steam stats, I'd say it'd be either Borderlands or Fallout 3 - got each for about $25 counting DLC, reached about 160 hours in Borderlands and would have gone for more if my GPU didn't crap out for 8 months, and I'm currently going through Fallout 3 - had about 18 hours a year ago on a trial playthrough before everything went south with my PC (and my character). I'm at about 77 on the current playthrough with a modest chunk of vanilla sidequests left and 4 out of 5 DLC's untouched. -
Star Wars: KoTOR 1 took me 23 hours to complete (With cheatz!)
Medieval 2 Total War vanilla is also addictive. I have wasted so many hours on the campaign (With *gasp* cheatz)
I hate the Turkish, STOP BLOCKING MY UNITS FOO! -
I been playing Minecraft since its alpha release, so i probably got a whole lot of hours for my 10 euros.
After Raptr added Minecraft tracking i logged maybe 100 hours into it. :O

For a console game, I paid $40 for Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball on the original Xbox and invested well over 200 hours in it.
On PC, probably the original Half-Life and its expansion packs/mods. I've replayed them countless times. I bought all of them on their respective release dates and used their CD keys to activate on Steam at the time. In 10+ years, it has to be around 1,000 hours, maybe more, among HL, Opposing Force, Blue-Shift, and Counter Strike 1.6. I've even played Half-Life on the PS2 a couple times. -
Probably the second Gran Turismo on the PlayStation 1
I got it for about $2 and played it every weekend form dawn till dusk for a year! Ah, the good ol days
-
Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne Expansion. By FAR.
I've played Dota (defence of the ancient) countless hours. Probably over 6000 games.
Not counting LoD and other custom maps I used to play back when AoS (Aeon of Strife) was still pretty big; and unbalanced, lol.
But yea, I wouldn't say that it didn't cost me. I lost the damn Frozen Throne CD three times over the years! Back when I used to go to lan parties a lot
Anyway I got smart the last time and bought it off the battle.net website, so no more need for CD's. -

OH I forgot about WC3 yeah I didnt put any time into the vanilla game but spent TONS of time in custom games.
Just the opposite with SC2 I dont play any custom games but play the regular game.
I guess I put a decent amount of time into Minecraft as well but not nearly as much as the other games i mentioned. -
Killing Floor. Picked it up for $15 and I've put in more hours in that FPS game than any other FPS.
But I suspect GW2 when it's released will provide the most fun per dollar. -

I've played Oblivion, Civ4 and Civ5 for several hundred hours each, averaging around $0.02 - $0.03 per hour of entertainment value.
But absolutely nothing beats the value of Team Fortress 2 because it's completely free. -
Diablo 2 and wacraft 3 frozen throne, both blizzard games, couldn't figure out how many hours I spent playing these 2 over the years and I don't remember how much I paid for them either, but heck, that gotta be like 1 cent per hour or way lower!
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Games for me that was so worth the hours per dollar were Guild Wars, Battlefield 2, SW: KotOR, Oblivion (to an extent) and more recently L4D2, DA: O, and Mass Effect 1/2.
Highest hours of gameplay per dollar paid
