I'm going to my local EBGames to pick up my reserved copies of Crysis and UT3 soon. Thing is, I'm much more of a single player gamer, and as such I'd like to return UT3 and get another game instead.
Here are the options;
Gears of War
Orange Box
CoD4
Keep in mind I still have never played Half-Life 2 (an utter sin, I'm aware), so I don't know if Orange Box would be a good idea. Unless it comes with HL2, I just wasn't sure if it did. I'd more be getting it for Portals anyway probably. That and TF2 so that I could play with my friends at LANs. I might be able to scrape together the extra $20 to get HL2, which I had planned to do for a bit now.
Gears of War was my first thought, as with the addition of 5 chapters it seems more than worth it. Not to mention it has a fantastic single player mode which is more or less what I'm after.
CoD4: I loved CoD2, but at times it really didn't keep my interest. From what everyone's saying I'm sure I'd really like CoD4, however with all CoD games the story mode is bound to be short and have fairly limited replay value. And again, I probably won't play online much.

The Orange Box comes with Half Life 2 and Episodes 1 and 2 as well as TF2 and the utterly, utterly brilliant Portal. If you've never played HL2 then the Orange Box has to be your first choice. Plus it won't require a Death Star size PC to run it.

The Orange Box is best value for money by far.
Regardless of which one you get, you will have a very enjoyable experience. All those games are excellent.
In addition, Orange Box is the only game(s) that will run on max settings on your 8700M GT. -

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
COd4 or the ob. Gears of war pales in comparison. Trust me I own all 3.

I ended up going with Orange Box. I'm definitely happy with my decision.

Gears of War is amazing, but it's all in the campaign so you won't get a whole ton of replayability.
The Orange Box is nice if you don't have Half Life 2, it opens up a lot of options for mods and stuff, some of which are on the level of decent retail games. The only reason I haven't bought the orange box is because I don't think TF2 + Portal would be at all worth it for the price since I already have the rest.
Call of Duty 4 is one hell of a shooter, the campaign is immersive and a welcome break from the overdone world war II theme of the other call of duty games. In multiplayer, the class system really shines after you get your first few unlocks, you can have a wide range of variety and IMO they did a great job of balancing it so you can still own if you're rank 10 or if you're rank 60, the rank 60 just has more options for how to own.
I suppose if you don't own half life 2, the orange box would be the obvious choice, but you really need to get call of duty 4 too if you're at all interested in it. (don't forget to try demos) -
i would go with gears of war
cheers -
Get ready for the masterpiece that is Half Life 2. You should play the first one before you start any of the episodes. However, you can play Portal and TF2 anytime without having to worry about the storyline.
In my opinion, Half Life 2 is definately the best game of all time. -

Have COD4 & OB ... Can't stop playing COD!!! I loaded up OB but I'm just not interested in it at the moment. I guess it comes down to what you like more

Having played all of those besides UT3, I'd say HL2 has the best single player. Call of Duty 4 would come close, but it doesn't have the same value as the Orange Box, which essentially contains 5 games that are all masterpieces in their own right. Gears of War was fun on my Xbox360, so I'd say it is a solid 3rd choice.
Hmmm. . .which game?
