Holy Crap!
I spent some time going through the undervolting of CPU and overclocking of GPU and ended up with a stable 8600m GT DDR2 (475/400 stock) to overclock to 600/510! Been running 3DMark06 GPU tests for over 45 minutes now with no noticeable artifacting, no crashing, and temps are only about 60C!!! Ended up spending the $20 for 3DMark06. Figure it's cheaper than buying a laptop with 8600m GT with GDDR3!
ATITool determined max GPU of 635 and max Mem of 530 after a few hours, but running with that would crash 3DMark06 after a short period. I figure 600/510 is a fair bump down while still maintaining a solid overclock.
I still need to update the BIOS so that I can use the latest drivers, but so far so good.

ingame bench please!
preferably: World in Conflict
Counterstrike source (if possible) -
Grrrr.
I tried using nibitor and nvflash, and it isn't a good experience.
It gave me a subsystem mismatch. Even though I override it, 3DMark05 or 06 refuse to run. I have run so many driver versions and same result.
I was using nibitor 3.5 and nvflash 5.5.
Any suggestions? Now that nvidia blocked driver o/c'ing - dammit. -
did u try using new riva tuner, people say it works with .44 drivers?!
-
What resolution were you running 3dmark06? 1280x1024 or 1024x768?
-
Default resolution, 1280x1024.
Problem is that I can o/c with driver, but with BIOS flash is giving me issues, so trying to work through that.
That comment from Big V, I will try the new RivaTuner later tonight (2.04?) -
Why did you buy 3Dmark06? There are other stresstests available for free.
-
Because he can afford it
, not a bad score for a DDR2 8600M-GT, and for 99% of lptop owners it's best. I myself am sitting pretty on 9400 OC'ed at XGA and 8200 OC'ed at default
but with WAY higher temps lol - 80ºC+ but still stable
-
i always liked the hype behind 3dmark scores... can anyone explain it to me?!
htwingnut, not really sure about the tuner, i have 2.03, so i guess, 04 is the latest(even tho i had mine for less than a week, and they already got a new release) -
Well, it seems that I goofed. I used the BIOS flash technique, but didn't realize that I need to o/c the shader clock at 2x the speed of the GPU. Now it is running rock stable at 590/490 with Shader @ 1180.
I bought 3DMark06 because I am always fiddling with PC's and performance of some sort. I don't care much for the hype behind 3DMark scores, but it is a benchmark, and a standardized one at that. It is a good indicator of how your PC performs compred with other configurations on the same system or other systems.
I am running some benches tonight on World in Conflict to compare results with previous ones at stock clock. Now that makes more sense, I agree.
Holy Cow! Vostro 1500 O/C 3DMark06 @ 3834!!!
