    Hi there,

    Thinking of getting a Dell 1520 with 128MB 8400m gs...But wondering if I

would be able to output the video of the Dell 1520 to a Standard Analog TV

    with Component Video Inputs ?

    thanks

The 1520 comes with an s-video out port. Therefore if your TV has accepts either s-video or composite( yellow RCA ), then you can hook it up to the TV. I had trouble finding an s-video to composite adapter in stores like Best Buy (where they claimed it doesn't exist) and RadioShack. I did however find svideo.com/ where you can buy such adapters for cheap. I do not believe it is possible/easy to get s-video or vga to component video, but if you are using an analog TV, chances are you don't need component video and composite will do.

Doesn't the 128MB 8400 GS also have a Component Video output port, that's compatible with most Analog TVs ?

It doesn't necessarily matter what the graphics card can do. What matters is what features did the notebook manufacturer decide to implement. In the case of the 1520, Dell decided to implement VGA and s-video out. If the output port isn't there, then you are not going to get it. Most analog TVs have composite inputs. The s-video to composite should work just fine connecting to an analog TV. Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding; you do know the difference between composite and component, right?

you can hook it up to an SDTV via S-video no problem.

Most newer SDTV's have an s-video input so you simply need an s-video cable that you can find at walmart for less than $10. If your SDTV does not have an s-video input than you will need an s-video to male composite cable. Composite is the yellow cable that carries the video on your ps2, dvd players, etc.

Component cables are used for high definition televisions and some standard televisions which can utilize 480p resolution. I don't think this is what you're looking for though.

Here's what you need to hook up your notebook to an SDTV.

For the record, you can adapt down but not up (i.e. Component to S-Vid, S-Vid to composite, Composite to CX but not vice-versa)

Sorry that I got Component and Composite confused.

What I meant to ask was if I can hook up a 1520 with 128MB 8400m gs

to a standard TV with Composite (Video, Left-Audio, Right-Audio) ?
