The PC trailer for Horizon Zero Dawn's PC port just dropped
It adds ultra-wide support, graphical enhancements (improved reflections, dynamic foliage), graphical customization, unlocked framerate, control options and a benchmarking tool.
Performance wise it seems well optimised. The benchmark pass with an RX580 and R5 1500x at original settings got about 60fps.

The recommended hardware for Original (Medium) settings at 60fps is an i7-4770k/R5 1500x and a GTX1060/RX580
Think an RTX 2070 can run ultra at 60fps?

First game i pre-ordered since 2012-2013
Looking forward to when it drops, was about to purchase a used ps4 so I can play it and was overjoyed when it was announced for PC. -
Same here. This was the only game which came close to making me consider buying a PS4. Glad I didn't though. Even happier now that it's coming to PC.
-
I played it on PS4 Pro but will get it on PC too! It is a masterpiece !

I actually bought a dualshock 4 to get the controller experience as well lol.

Ah, this looks amazing. So glad it's being released on PC
Going to whine for a moment and wish that nvidia would announce Ampere already. I'd much rather play this game on High or Ultra settings than the Medium settings that are suggested for my GTX 1060. But the game should be great either way. Can't wait to play it.Last edited: Jul 6, 2020 -
yeah I saw this game for ps4 and wanted it....got my friend to buy it he claims its wicked good...pretty cool getting all these console ports (sarcasm) yeah us pc gamers are spoiled when low looks just as good as ultra overall....keep em coming can't get enough of these ports
-
Besides Horizon Zero Dawn, there are quite a few PS exclusive which I'd really love to play but not as much as to actually buying the console:
- last of us
- uncharted
- shadow of the colossus
- bloodborne
...just a few that stuck in my mind. -
Get the best of both worlds buy a ps and own a laptop...not like it's criminal to own both

Yeah thats true. You can emulate the last of us (1) and Shadow of the colossus with RPCS3 though.
I want to play the last guardian myself.
Better yet, get playstation now and stream it to your laptop. Thats what I planned to do. -
My wife is going to disagree with you on that one

This may not be such of a bad idea. I've thought about ps now a while ago but it didn't make much sense. Their library seems to have grown since then. Only issue remains that it's much better of a deal with a 1 year membership vs month by month and as of now I'm not sure I'd use it that often. Still, it's only $60.
Have you tried it? -
l have no clue
I've not tried it yet. I'll probably subscribe to it when there are two or more ps5 games I'd like to play -
Well, I did it. Bought a 12 months PS Now subscription. Can't say how excited I am that I can finally play Bloodborne (I've enjoyed Dark Souls quite a lot... well, maybe not some boss fights).
Even if I only play Bloodborne, The Last of us and Shadow of the Colossus, it'll be worth it for a year... and I think I saw a few more interesting exclusives in there.
The launcher however is very poorly designed. They say there are over 700 titles but as incredible as this sounds, there is no search option and only some default filters. So yeah, you have to know what you want to play before hand by going to their website and browsing there. Of course on the website there isn't an option to favorite a specific game so you need to remember it and then browse to it in the app. They must've outsourced the design to the cheapest "dev" they found. /rant
So far I only fired up Bloodborne for a little while and it looks and runs fine. It's not going to be as crisp and as fast as any game running locally but I think it'll work. Any game should be fine as long as it's not very fast paced and needs extremely accurate reflexes. Also, I'm using an xbox controller over usb, just because that's what I have at hand. Works fine. Haven't experienced any slowdown or interruptions (I am using a 130Mbps line).
Hoping this is not too frowned upon, I also found a slightly discounted option for the 12 months subscription. Bought it from cdkeys.com for $47
. First time shopping there, went fine, key came instantly.
Edit: I do realize how off topic this got. Go Horizon Zero Dawn! Just a little longer and we'll be able to play it

This is one of the few games I wish I had a console to play. But now it comes to PC and most likely will be a day one buy for me, seeing how Mafia remaster got delayed.

I wonder if they are going to update textures for pc or if they have already...this game is supposed to be one of the best games of 2020
-
I was just thinking about this today. Google tells me this game came out in early 2017, so it'll be quite a challenge to take that title over 3 and a half years later.
-
it doesn't come out till august 7th -
I meant the initial date, when it came out on PS4. Unless they improve the graphics for the PC release, it will look like an early 2017 game.

Will any of the visual assets—character, machines, environments, etc.—be redone or remastered for the PC port?
The characters, machines and environments in Horizon Zero Dawn for PC are the same as those found in the PS4 version.
So no, they are unchanged but being a native 4k title i dont think it will be a problem. It may be lower poly compared to pc titles though.JRE84 likes this. -
More importantly, is it a good game? Graphics look fine. Games with lesser graphics are legendary experiences, so it's not make-or-break unless you just like to wander around taking screenshots of textures up close.

haha you got a laugh outta me, yeah thats true...some of the ugliest games are the best games...but in this case it looks amazing and is also an amazing game according to reviews.
I have personally not tried it but from what everyone says i'll be buying this august 7thhfm likes this. -
I'm going to take a wild guess it wasn't one of the best PS4 games for no reason. Unfortunately I just have way too many games I haven't played to buy it right away. I can't keep up any more so I'm just enjoying some of the stuff I bought previously for a while until Cyberpunk releases. Though I did get the EA of Gloomhaven, Avorion, Everspace expansion and Dark Souls III during the sale because I like the tabletop game. I have no idea why I bought DS3... I'm probably not putting myself through that slog any time soon..JRE84 likes this.

2080ti can't even hit 60fps and you guys think with the ps5 you will be hitting 60fps with ports....don't get angry when I say you guys are unrealistic and the new consoles will make the 2080 in laptops obsoleteLast edited: Aug 7, 2020 -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Downloaded the game and straight away it hit me with a patch
-
Played this back when; I'd call it a must buy for those that enjoy the genre.
-
This is a badly done, outsourced port. Has nothing to do with prospecting next-gen.
HXD is 1080p/30 on PS4, it makes no sense for it to require such brute force hardware to get decent performance. Did you even watch the video?
Look at Death Stranding PC, which runs on the same exact Decima Engine. Amazing port with stellar performance.

I do see reports similar to this but I'm hopeful for a good day 1-2 patch to help with optimization. Download speed is particularly slow today so I'll probably test it only later in the afternoon.
-
Seems to be that it mainly has performance issues with Nvidia cards which will probably going to be fixed with a driver update...hell, the card which was used has only been 70-80% initiated.
But even with this buggy driver there were no issues in 1080p and the 60 fps was only not held when 4k was used.
Or now everyone is upset because another , completely different game which uses this same engine had better optimization ?
Another reason why I am glad that I went for fhd 240hz instead of 4k. -
I realize this is with 4k and yes I watched the video its still awful performance either way you slice it...and this is the general trend with ports so it really isn't isolated
-
lets make a friendly bet I bet 2080s will be obsolete and you the opposite...come december 2020 we will put in our chips and see whos right
-
Specs below in signature. I am getting 80-105 FPS in this title thus far no tearing / microstutter
-
Thanks for the info. Can you clarify what graphics card you're using? Your sig mentions RX 5700XT, GTX 970m 6GB, and GTX 1070.
-
framerates like that indicate 5700xt
-
That's.. a wildly inaccurate statement.
The poor performance is solely because Guerilla Games handed the port to Virtuous, a studio which has done shoddy ports in the past.
You're giving no logical explanation for why a card as strong as the RTX 2080 would suddenly be obsolete.seanwee likes this. -

kevin Ill explain in a second why im leaning this way its based on history and truths.
DF was wrong this game actually scales well and performs well....I was basing my opinion of performance on that one video but now after see many many videos its clear this is actually a good port.
kevin. when the xbox 360 and ps3 came out they were amazing well at least the cpu in the ps3. when the games went from console to pc you needed a far more powerful card than what was in the xbox 360 or ps3 because consoles are better optimised albeit in that generation a cinematic experience. now we have ps5 and xbox sx rolling out with power similar to a 2080 desktop and 2070 respectfully it has be posted everywhere xb will be 12 teraflops 16gb ram ect. even if its not a 2080 they have promised it will be 4 times the power of a xbox x aka 1060. now im scoring 10k in firestrike and a 2080 scores 25k. 2.5 times the power now imagine 4times the power.. thats a 40k firestrike score for graphics. plus console optimizations. all it does is play games and laptops and desktops are designed with gaming and many many other uses this has always been the case. when they launch xb and ps5 ports will never scale perfectly and 40k firestrike is the best case senerio for ports. granted its a perfect port. also as time goes on and devs unleash everydrop of power a 3080ti will be needed to push framerates of 4k60. I could go on but I won't iff your just joining the gaming bandwagon thats fine but since the ps3 days and even sooner ports which is 99percent of all triple a pc games need more power than their console counterparts..
TLDR
2080 wont cut it
but then again alot of people have 1080p screens and like high framerates as was just posted...yes you will be fine i wont i have a 1060.
Also tbh it's just my opinion based on the past which may or may not be the case this coming december I also didn't mention they are using xbsx games on the og consoles, so this may fair well when it comes to pc port scalingLast edited: Aug 7, 2020 -
heres a good example

So far it works fine on my machine. I haven't encountered any slow downs, stuttering, etc in about 2 hours. It does keep the laptop toasty, the fans do kick in but not too much. I left most settings on high and some on medium, I have no complaints about the graphics but to be honest it didn't have that "blow-away wow" effect as Death Stranding had when I first fired it up.
Nothing wrong with HZD, just that it's more on the "cartoony" side. For example, no matter how awesome gameplay Borderlands had, I could never bring myself to play it, I just can't stand that sort of graphics. This is not that far so I will play it, for sure. I love the quick character movement, the bow/arrow game is satisfying and I can't wait to explore more of it. -
The 5700XT, maybe by the end of the month ill have the 1080 back in the P750ZM but by then patches and updates will likely have smoothed things out and give a good idea for that.
Correct. Mostly 80-105 but that vaires based on the flora of the area of course.Prototime likes this. -
PCs will handle properly optimised ps4/ps4pro ports just fine. In fact, I think that pc will handle ps5 ports OK at 1080p
If a ps5 runs games at 4k 60/120 (let's be generous and say that with optimisations it'll be 20% faster than a 2080ti), It's not hard to imagine that a 2080 laptop will be able to run a port of said game at 1080p 60 or higher at equivalent settings.
But if you want to run a port at higher than console quality you'l need significantly more gpu horsepower for sure. Just look at Red dead redemption 2.JRE84 likes this. -

There's so much context-lacking speculation and conclusion in your statement. 2080 will be an acceptable card for at least a couple more years as long as you aren't looking for THE BEST performance at 4K/8K. It depends on what the parameters are for the 2080 to "wont cut it". If you're saying make use of 120Hz+ 4K Ultra/RT.. it doesn't cut that TODAY, this is true. But either does my 15W CPU and 2070 over TB3 to the internal laptop panel (massive overhead).. and it's playing games just fine at 1600p. TB3 overhead and CPU bottlenecks are greatly reduced at higher resolutions. 1600p is a sweet spot for this IMO. I don't see this setup becoming suddenly obsolete for a couple years if I have expectations in check. But since I do want better RT performance I'll probably get a 3080 and leave the rest of the systems as-is until a Gram 17 with 6+ cores and TB3 shows it's face. (or light enough competitor with 16:10 17" shows themselves.. has not happened.. XPS 17 isn't it yet).
Saying we need a 3080Ti for 4K60 is an extreme statement without specificity. It's all about context. Needing it for 4K with next generation RT features turned up and without taking advantage of DLSS 2.0 might be accurate.
RT is the lynch pin here.
You can take a 13 year old game like Crysis and say it can bring modern systems to the brink, but that's because it was engineered with outdated principles of massively scaling single core performance, which didn't happen.
Just take a peek at this, and these are cards that aren't quite up to 2080 level.
No one with a 2080 should be very concerned about keeping their card for another couple years as long as you have realistic expectations.killkenny1 likes this. -
so you dont think the 4 times jump in power will affect port performance....im done here
