    1. That loop is misleading, because it's one minute and in one of the most least demanding areas. I know someone with a GTX 1060. This is a screenshot of their settings, which are giving them a 45fps average further along in the game:

This lines up with what Alex at Digital Foundry and other sites have found in testing.

    2. Microsoft has directly said the Xbox Series X GPU will be 2x faster than the Xbox One X. The 4x faster comment was referring to the CPU going from Jaguar to Ryzen.

    3. I agree with you about gaming at 4K. The RTX 2080 will not last the entire generation at that resolution. I don't believe anyone expects it to last 7-8 years. My only contention was you saying it's obsolete immediately. But I think that comes down to the misunderstanding of what Microsoft meant with the 4x faster comment.

thanks for clearing that up. :) but yes I know it might sound extremist but I really do think the 2080 and all gpus this gen will be obsolete. soon december that is.. as for power isn;t it 4x not 2x I swear I heard 4x a million times...correct me if I'm wrong...its not like im god and my opinion is fact and stands no matter what.. but dude even at 2x don't you think since it's a port 2080 will not maintain...dying for your response back as you are highly knowledgeable and intelligent.

Worst that I have had thus far is a couple crashes 11 hours apart and light beams cast in fog in darker areas are kind of blocky

Found the fix to my issue and many other texture related ones, the game's built in anisotropic filtering is broken.

Set the anisotropic filtering to 16x in NVIDIA/RADEON control panel. Go into the game directory and delete the cache, then let it rebuild.

Anyone else find the dynamic camera annoying? It always seems to slowly move Aloy to the right of the screen, but when aiming with the bow it moves back to the left. Is there a way to set/disable this?

I must be crazy (probably playing Death Stranding before this is part of the cause) but I have to say I'm not really feeling it with Horizon Zero Dawn.
Don't get me wrong, it's very complex, large, graphics are awesome, the story is interesting... but after about 12 hours of playing, I'm still not loving it. It's strange, I can't put my finger on exactly why.
Story-wise, I just got to Meridian, but for the last part I found myself bee-lining it there, just to see it.

    Also, I liked Rost

I'll probably end up getting it after a few patch iterations roll out, I'm still having fun with NMS and Elite: Dangerous until then. I have a feeling I'm going to keep playing those before I run squarely into CP2077 and then it's probably goodbye every other game for 3 months. (with a side journey into a little taste of FS2020 since its on gamepass)

Its ok for me. Maybe the travelling and crafting is tedious but swapping out weapons/ using different attack strategies is keeping combat interesting. I'm also alternating between dualshock 4 and keyboard/mouse to get a feel of how the game feels like on PS4. Keyboard/mouse is better for accuracy but haptic feedback on dualshock as well as more intuitive shortcuts make playing it a lot more fun. Accuracy vs enjoyment?

Its Far Cry but with robots and a much more varied map/landscape and more interesting story and lore.

This is a good description, although from what I've seen so far, HZD has much worse AI, probably by design to push players to bigger fights both with robots and humans. Sneaking is not implemented very well.

Near 50 hours and still haven't complete the base game or its dlc, think I'm getting close to the conclusion though.

It's a good purchase in my opinion though there does seem to be a fair bit crashing for some people while others no issues at all.

You can probably play but it's likely to be at medium.

At ultra I get 80-105fps with my 5700xt at 2085 core.

I'm getting cpu bottlenecked in some areas of the game with long draw distances where the cpu runs at 60-80% and gpu runs at 80-ish%
at 75-85 ish fps (ultimate preset)

    Hows your cpu usage?

Ideally you should try it before you pay for it. Looks like it depends a lot on personal preference... as anything for that matter.

I'm about 20 hours in and for me it's a solid 6/10. It's pretty and all but somehow it's not tickling me the right way. I will finish it because I do want to find out more about the main story, but that's about it.

Edit: Maybe it's a balancing issue too. I tried on hard but some parts were too tedious for me. Going back to normal difficulty, I find it too easy.

8/10 under the rpg genre for me. Story is good, graphics is good, the setting is very cinematic and atmospheric, no stability issues, finding upgrade components for ammo/inventory size is a bit tedious, size quests are average to bland, combat is very open to interesting strategies (ie luring a thunderjaw to a bandit camp) and the price i got it ($20, lower price in my region) its a great buy.

Its a classic role playing game ala witcher/far cry/assasins creed/elder scrolls/fallout. If you like the genre, you'll enjoy it.

I finally finished the main quest. The save game says it took me 24 hours of game time (some random running around and side quests done too). I'm sticking to my previous assessment: 6/10.

I like this game type a lot but I just can't stand the over colorful cartoony graphics, repetitive side quests, full but empty feeling world (hard to describe this one), the story was predictable, the major plot twist was a distinct lack of a plot twist... I don't know. I feel the devs could have done much much better in many aspects of the game to have it live up to all the hype.

I guess the whole setting was also a little off-putting in my particular case. I'm more of a futuristic/modern sci-fi type, not the primitive tribe who fights machines with sticks.

Anyway, I'm sure there are a lot who enjoy the game as it is so yeah, I'm off to watch some Star Trek or something to cheer myself up.
70 more Gb free disk space also makes me happy now :)

I kept trying to think of a sort of similar game/theme/setting, done the right way and a light bulb went off: Elex! Now that was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially being a huge Gothic fan from way back.

I'm 21 hours in and completed about 2/3 of the story plus some side quests.
I partly share @cucubits view on the game. After some time spent with the game it's definitely enjoyable, but has some quirks.

I clocked about 60 hours, but I enjoyed it. Others finished in 20-25 hours I think I believe they mostly just did the main quests and a few things here or there.

Right now I am playing Witcher 3 for the first time so taking time off of Horizon before I dive into New Game+

    Nowhere near finished.
I'm trying to get all the trials done but I keep running into problems with them (cannot get blazing suns... but I CAN get lower scores).
For example, I can barely lure the stags into the area I want them in (as they keep running far away and its a problem to catch them in time), and the logs refuse to dislodge and fall on the stags when I hit them.
Then there's the problem of removing canisters from Bellowbacks after stunning them (I even tried following a method for it as described on youtube, and the guy had it easy... whereas for me... the canisters never budged... and I ended up killed).

Its ANNOYING... and I'm steadily running out of resources (even after learning the trick for farming, I'm just not getting what I need to replenish my supplies in adequate numbers).

On the bright side, performance improved dramatically with patch 1.03... so at least that's 1 less problem to worry about.

Are you using Piercing Long arrows on them? I just went for the 3 arrow skill and then add Long bow - Piercing and it tends to blow it up on the first or second shot @Deks

that is if I am recalling the right one

Use the tearblast arrow. It removes parts really quickly.

The hardest trial for me was the Stealth one where you had to loot shellwalker crates.
