Hi everyone. I'm interested in hosting my own Battlefield games on the internet, but I'm having some difficulty. I have no problem hosting a LAN game in my own home, but I can't seem to get the internet hosting right. I can't seem to get my server to show up in the list of servers that you refresh in the Battlefield game. Do I have to configure my router a certain way? Do I have to register with Gamespy or something? I would just like the ability to have anyone come join my game. I could really use some quick help on this topic, because everywhere I find answers, they're all different. I've tried lots of different configurations, to no avail. I would really appreciate some good advice. Sorry for the n00bish question. Thanks in advance!

First of all, how many players? You need significant upstream bandwidth. Most DSL or Cable upstream speeds aren't sufficient for something like BF2 or BF2142 past 8 players.

I have Fios with 20mbps down and 5mbps up. That should suffice for around 10 players I believe.

I think I may have gotten it. After setting up my router's port forwarding and my firewall's permissions, I can finally see my computer in the server list in Battlefield. Does this mean I have done everything right? I hope it does. Now how to ADMIN the server is going to be the tricky part, because I have to start learning from scratch!
