I know that recent DX10 games coming out will support DX9 cards but how long until they become incompatible with DX9 cards?

DX10 will not go full steam for a while... like 2-3 years probably.

The new DX10 games have DX9 shaders and compatibilities.

No worries for DX9 being out of date for a long time coming.

I heard Alan Wake was DX10-only, though. :O

If the developer/publisher of the game wants to have good sales, they will have a DX9 path.

DX10 exclusive game will not sell well if the mass gaming community still has DX9.

it should be able to handle new games on mid to low settings.

probably another year or two of decent gaming ability left in it.

DX10 game I'm looking forward to is Crysis, and a 7950GTX should handle that well.

    Crysis seems a bit over-rated...

the ones to look for are the games that are using the Unreal 3 engine:
    - Unreal Tournament 3
    - Gears of War (for PC)
    - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

those are going to be the one to beat.

Well, it's certainly been confirmed that it's Vista and 360 exclusive. So I guess you're right that it won't be DX10 exclusive, but the support will certainly be there. lol

    I screwed that one up...

BTW, Gears of War sucks. Don't buy it. $60 for 5 hours of less-than-stellar gameplay was not a good investment. Everyone just goes coocoo for cocoa puffs because of the graphics.
