Version 2.20 changed the unlock feature. You need to the following to the .cfg file.

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
    UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1

Just use Sapphire Trixx, it's better than Afterburn I think for AMD. Afterburn is just one big junky mess. And I hope Riva Tuner dies. Trixx works well with AMD's PowerPlay and vBios. No need for profiles and other stupidness. Just set the overclock and done.

    Agreed.
For ATI / AMD i also recommends Sapphire TriXX.
(TriXX does not support Nvidia tech.)

I wouldn't OC memory very much because there's just no way of knowing how hot it's running; the temperature sensor for the card reads from the core and not from the ram chips.

Some notebook chipsets do not cool the memory modules on notebooks adequately so just be careful.

I have yet to see much proof of this.

For instance have people tried removing cooling pads to see if their memory overclock is affected?

I have, not immediately but over time. The cooling pads on the vram chips on a 9800m GS in my old Asus x50v melted and soon after I took them off I began to experience artifacts on the screen without any overclock. After about a week the artifacts got really bad and I had a brick on my hands.

I'm sure that this isn't irrefutable proof, but for long term stability I would not push the RAM chips to as far as they can go in a laptop. Just my two cents.

Well here is what I experienced in DiRT3:

    Config:
    ACER Aspire 7750G-2414G75MN
    Intel Core i5-2410M @ 2.70Ghz
    2x2GB DDR3 1333Mhz
AMD Radeon HD 6650M 2GB ( 20% overclock on the core and memory clock )

    1280x720 4xAA Vsync:On High Details Benchmark
    without OC: min fps= 39.70 average fps= 45.10
    with OC: min fps= 44.69 average fps=50.96

    1280x720 4xAA Vsync:On Ultra Details Benchmark
    without OC: min fps= 24.25 average fps= 27.71
    with OC: min fps= 28.85 average fps= 32.33
