You should be able to play them with the settings turned down. Get another gig of memory for maximum performance. The x1400 is not the most powerful notebook gpu in the world, but it will play those games on low-medium settings. FEAR will give you the most trouble.

Yeah, FEAR is a memory Nazi. Most other games should run ok, but don't expect to be able to max out all the settings and play with silky smoothnicity (that's right, I made up a new word).

with the same spec, except i have 2gb ram, and OCed x1400,
i get around 40-50 fps for both fear and bf 2142 (which is just like bf 2 graphic wise) at med settings (fear with shadows off).
you can play them fairly well with med settings -
Get more memory and you should be ok for alil while
-
well I am not into eye candy really so speed is mostly what I care about that.Although I would like some decent looks.
-
2 gb of ram will help alot on load times also
-
no, more ram won't help a lot with load times, for that you need faster HD
ram will make gameplay smoother once data is loaded onto the ram from the HD but if you have slow rpm hd (like i do), load time is still bad
i can tell you that my oced x1400 can run HL2 episode 1 with everything on high, simple water reflections, 2x AA, bloom with 25-31 fps
without aa, 30-40,
with HDR no AA 8x AF (i don't get why its good, when i look at dark things it takes time for it to brighten up, and then when i look at bright things it becomes uber bright and have to wait for it to die down), i get 19-25 fps
(all record shown outdoors)
while the x1400 will be the limiting factor in gaming for any system with core duo, it is still a pretty good performer if your expectations aren't too high, like wanting to play cyrsis at med(lol).
more ram will help with making everything run faster (not only games) as the HD needs to be accessed less often
you will be able to play those games you want fine, though bf 2142 and fear might be a little jittery without 2gb ram -

^I agree with you. I don't understand what the hell is so good about HDR. It's is just annoying to me. Like in CS:S, I can't aim until te light dies down lol, and by that time Im already dead.

i can run FEAR Combat and Battlefield 2 on my laptop on medium low graphics:
1.6ghz Intel Pentium M
768mb RAM
128mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo -
is x1400 better than 9600 pro?
-
How are these specs for gaming?
