Optimus can cause trouble with games, but how much of an issue is it actually? I have had my gt540m lappy for awhile now and so far most I had to do was switch preferred gpu to the dgpu in a couple of games. I'm wondering how bad it actually has gotten with folks though, since taking a step back from looking at the p771zm (970m) for my future purchase, I noticed that there's a store that offers the g750jy for about the same price. Despite having the 8 gig 980m, it still does have optimus though, which worries me for the future since newer chassis dumped it.

It's not really much trouble at all. See here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...4-years-since-nvidia-optimus-started-how.html

I've had it on my Alienware m14x R2, only ever had problems with Sonic Generations and a driver update fixed them. Otherwise it normally works perfectly and very occasionally I need to manually select the dGPU for a program.

I thought the fullscreen bug in Dragon Age Inquisition was caused by Optimus but apparently some desktop users are experiencing it as well so that theory soon evaporated! -
Thanks guys! Seems like in contrary to some nightmare scenarios that the experience is OK after all... Atleast I can sleep better now if I choose the g750jy after all.

For high end users or users who want the absolute most control over their systems, Optimus is a detriment.
For someone who's just gaming and is a bit more casual, then it's pretty much fine I suppose. -

Also it seems Optimus might be causing issues in Dragon Age Inquisition with the abiliy to go Fullscreen.

No problems here... Optimus has been a much better then AMD's Enduro.. Only one of my games hasn't be recognised by it but AMD had like maybe 5-10..
-
Might just as well be multiple issues, wouldn't be the first time for EA. Also, yeah my cousin mentioned it having issues on ultra settings or something.

Yep, I agree with above, Optimus for the most part works great and has for years. Only occasionally do I need to manually change a game to use dedicated as it detects most. I wouldn't hesitate at all if the laptop you like has it.

I actually love the Optimus + Enduro technology.. It really helps to improve battery life.. It's a shame that AMD's Enduro just isn't as good as Optimus as both really have great potential if implemented properly (which NVIDIA has done and AMD hasn't really done it properly)...
How bad is Optimus actually?
