    Hey all

Just a quick gaming related question
I use FRAPS to benchmark most of my games, eg. COD4, UT3, Most Wanted, etc.
I was just wondering if there was any way to save these Frames and review them later. Eg, to find out the min/max/average

Also wondering how the FPS could be turned into graphs like those used in reviews.

    Thanks :D

Hm... well the only way I know how to do something like that would be to review the frames by recording your screen during gameplay. :( Hopefully someone else will chip in here though with a nice program that does what you are looking for. :) Good luck!

FRAPS has an option to log framerates, including doing the math for you and just displaying the min/max/avg. Check the settings, it should be in there somewhere. Unless you're looking for something else that I'm not understanding...

    Thanks for your replies

No, no that's exactly what I need. :D

Just wondering which of these boxes I must choose in order for the framerate to be recorded

    Thanks again

No, I meant which option should I choose from "Save detailed benchmark statistics"
In the image above, should I choose MinMaxAvg/or FPS/ or FrameTimes

    Thanks

You can do it easily and without affecting your FPS (I've heard the FRAPS reduces your FPS a little when running) by following this guide Monitoring Notebook Temps: nVidia & ATI, CPU, HDD
It will enable you to monitor your temops and FPS whilst gaming and produces a graph for you to look at afterwards (",)

Thanks for this just what I was looking for :D, I'll try it out soon and get back to you

PS - I had heard that FRAPS slowed your FPS down, guess it was true

I used it, but the graph isn't that friendly.

It also doesn't give you the max/ min / ave., you have to find them out yourself

FRAPS does NOT slow your FPS down. If you record video it will, but it won't affect FPS unless you have a very old and underpowered PC. Even then it uses very little resources to just track and log fps.

If you run Harware Monitor at the same time that gives you the results your after, and possibly better temp readings...

I was only quoting what i'd read on here... (",)

I checked hardware monitor, but it just shows a jagged line :p
It's not easy to make out the numbers, and I'm not sure how to record them while I'm actually playing

With FRAPS, you can record in whatever increment you want, and then display data any way you want, and dump it into excel to create your own graph.

    Alright, I'll try FRAPS
But to start benchmarking in FRAPS, I'll have to press the benchmarking key right???

yes. It will record all data in a text file that you will have to port over to Excel to graph. It should give max/min/avg though as it records data. And it's FREE for basic function (including FPS benchmark stuff I believe).

    I got it to work :D :D
The benchmarks were recorded, and it even dumped them into an excel file for me :D
The reason they weren't saving was because I had accidentally deleted the FRASPLOG.txt file.
Once I recreated it, they were recorded fine.

    Thanks for your help
