Having to insert a disk to play a game makes it not worth playing when you are a mobile gamer. I have the CD's and the correct CD key, and it is running perfectly on my system. I was wondering if there is software out there or an executable that I can use that will hack Farcry to think it's using a CD?

    Thanks

you need to make the far cry cd an ISO file and use a program like alcohol 120% or daemon tools to "mount" the iso

google daemon tools and read the faq

Use Power ISO, or Alcohol 120 to rip the CD, and you can store the files in a folder. And there should be an auto run file found somewhere in there. That you can use even thought the CD is not in there.

No. You have to do this yourself with your own physical copies. Once you start sharing no CD-cracks over the internet, it's no longer fair use, it can easily be exploited by non owners.

that is called a mini image. it basically contains blanks of the far cry files and fulfills the cd key check requirement without changing the game files themselves. this means it is a more modular solution. patches, updates, etc, that rely on the exe file being untainted will work properly. its comparable to the iso you would make and then need to mount in daemon tools, except its much smaller. this file is only about 2 megs, versus maybe 600 megs for an iso.

other than the cd check itself, this will not get you past any security features of your game. you still have to have a legitimate cd key in order to play, as per requirement.

you also have to own the game to install the game files themselves.

ISO = okay and legal if you do not share.
No CD crack = not so legal but I can understand 'fair use' being okay for this, good luck trying to find one from a trustworthy source though...like I would call hackers trustworthy since they base their work on ripping off other people.

    And that's all folks.

Good luck with working it all out. That's not to say it's tough, but it will take you a little bit of time to understand it all and go through it. I've been doing this for years, even when I had a desktop since it's a massive pain to have to find a CD every time you want to game - I like to just double click the icon on the desktop and play. :)

Sometimes you encounter frustrating copy protection schemes that mean certain games don't play if you make an iso from the original discs, and a no-CD crack is necessary. It can depend on the settings you use to make the iso though, and you should search for the right ones to use with the program you make the iso with (Alcohol, DaemonTools etc) with the particular game you try. I haven't tried this with FarCry yet (don't play it much, as it always crashes in Vista), but I've managed it with my copies of F.E.A.R, Command and Conquer 3, Doom 3 and Civilization IV, and I haven't needed to use a no-CD crack with these.

club.cdfreaks.com is a forum where you will find discussion on what settings work with certain games, and I think megagames.com is terrific for no-CD cracks - whenever I've needed one because of a particularly obtuse copy protection scheme not liking my isos, I use the ones there.
