    There is a handheld steering controller that I really want to use;

    I don't understand why, because they seem ideal for laptops, but they haven't been made for some time and the only ones out there are for the old midi style Game Ports.

    Can anybody recommend an adapter to convert a Game Port controller to a USB input?

    Thanks. You can personally vouch first hand that this product works great? I am aware of these adapters but from what I've been reading performance on them is spotty at best for many people. I'm hoping to find one that somebody has used themselves and can recommend. :)

    Anyone using these with Vista/Win7? As far as I know the traditional Gameport support was dropped, I wonder if an usb-adapter would help.

    usb adaptor works fine in all OS's but some joysticks will not work correctly such as the microsoft sidewinder as most usb to gameport adaptors do not support digital signals.

    KLF, I use one on win 7 x64 for a pair of gravis gampeads from about 1990

    This is indeed great info :) I've had couple Creative live soundcards with gameports on my desktops and they were impossible to make work in Vista and Win7.

    Now I have a reason to find my old CH Flighstick Pro and figure out how to fix it (broken potentiometer). All those great flying games from the 90's wait me.

    Sidewinder joysticks used to come with a usb adapter( at least my Precision Pro did). I'm pretty sure you can still find them on Ebay.
