Right now i use a 120 watt with laptop in my signature. WHen i do heavy OC and overvolt the screen will go black and i have to restart my laptop. Is this because 120 Watt is to little for this laptop with a heavy OC and overvolt?

either that or the CPU or some other critical component faults because of the temperature.

it's probably either the CPU, GPU, or memory not being able to take the clock and voltage modifications.

i see, the temp does not really get higher than 75 degrees though on GPU and like 60-65 on CPU, i think il try get a 180w adapter

Increasing the size of the AC adaptor is all well and good but can your motherboard actually support a bigger ac adaptor wattage? what I am saying is you may find that you get a 180w ac adaptor but still only getting 120watt out of it (so bios / mobo restricting the 180w unit to 120w) unless you are able to amend bios/ ec firmware to increase wattage allowance.

If you are wanting a 180w PSU I am changing my MSI 180watt (delta) for a dell 230watt unit, I am taking the cable from the Adaptor to the laptop as I want that for the dell one and am cutting it down inside the ac adaptor, I have edited my bios strings to hopefully allow acceptance for the wattage increase you are welcome to my 180watt adpator cheap and you will just need to do the same using your laptop cable from ac to laptop.

Killawatt P3 - Monitor your actual useage of power. If its not peaking to the amount of your power supply then its big enough.

No guess work, straight up statistical information.

Can u tell me how to fix the bio like this?
I think its redicolus that they such low watt adapters with gaming laptops, why not just slap on a 200 watt on every high end laptop...

To be honest I have no idea if my mods to mine work as yet as I havent modified my new ac adaptor yet so I wouldn't like to say. But I used a program called Aptio to read and add/ amend bios strings. You have to be very careful when doing this.

I am wanting more of an overclock on my 6990m GPU and I think the Ac adpator is letting me down hence my increase to a 230watt adaptor to hopeful help with this.

As long as it matches the socket on your notebook, it will work.

you do understand you are being presumptuous with this power supply. it might be a wise idea to invest some effort into making a determination as to the cause of the problem, rather than assuming power supply and a hunch and rolling with it.

Well, my laptop is basically the same config, and when I overvolted my GPU and then overclocked it, it killed my PSU (so I was running on battery and I needed to reconnect it to revive it) so he definitely needs a higher power PSU.

But 150w will do you just fine, 180w is overkill.
