THIS. Who really stares at individual textures as close as possible instead of stepping back and looking at the total effect? Is it really any fun to do that? And what would these people say about, I dunno, Georges Seurat or Paul Signac?

Posting in a "Cheesy" thread...
*slaps knee* -
I'm surprised this thread is not closed. It's so off topic and filled with rage.
Plus people failed to read anything I wrote except they took offense to the fact that I don't agree with companies releasing crap just to meet the bottom line. My fault for antagonizing further.
I said I like Skyrim despite the graphics. I said it's a great game despite it being a console port. What I was debating was people saying it's perfectly ok to not put any effort towards PC, because it makes companies money. Graphics are not horrible. They're not AAA either. It plays better than most other console ports I've played.
Just play the damn game. Graphics are what they are. Mods are sure to be forthcoming anyhow enhancing the graphics. Move on. -
I agree. The graphics is not horrible. It is ok and better than Oblivion. But the gameplay, the story, the beautiful scenery, it makes this game 100x better than any other RPG out there.
imo -
Then again, Guild Wars 2 is made ONLY for PC, so I guess that not a fair debate. -
Console gamers sit far away from their screen so they don't notice how jaggy their game look like.
But PC gamers sit close to their screen. -
GW2 isn't out yet, so you can't really compare the two. Now do I hope and think that GW2 will be better than Skyrim at pretty much everything, yes. However, there's no actual proof yet.

Talking about GW2 is the only positive thing here
Too bad they have been in a regression of releasing new material for us to gander at. Maybe they have played most of there "look how awesome this is" hand. -
Need next gen consoles to arrive so that developers dont have to make games that will run on 6 year old machines.

Even with next gen console games are still artifically limited compared to pure pc titles by design.
Pure PC titles take into mind being able to modify files and content, configurations for graphics options, keyboard options, sound options, etc.
Simply making the console stronger is not going to make any of these common issues go away. -

in other words, these limitations are merely imagined. none of them actually exist. -
To me im grateful that they made skyrim the way it is now. I can run it with medium settings on my ancient Asus N80.
Honestly its one of the best games i ever played, the frredom to do whatever you want, to explore, to kill things in which way you like, its incredible.
The graphics are stunning on my lappy that is sure I havent played The witcher 2 and Crysis.
They did an amazing job with the immersion, you feel like you are truly in a different world.
But its true its tailored for the consoles, the menu is e and totally made with consoles in mind, but still the game is really stunning. -

if the game has a lame story you will complain about that
if it has great graphics you complain its not optimized, ok i never finished witcher 2 because it was running like crap on my laptop hign or low at 20ish FPS.
we must be lucky to be able to run games with 3-4 years old machines at high.
i dont have a laptop now but i saw skyrim at a friend and i liked how the game looked. hope they will include more with patch to satisfy some here.
all i want now is just a good game to have fun and sit my butt and enjoy with friends or alone whatever, look at payday the heist it has very bad graphics but its very fun to play.
I just want ti spend my time, have fun not just playing to say that i finished the game and i know the story.
those days are very few compared to what we had. -
This game is no witcher 2 in terms of graphics. But thats not saying much since the witcher 2 is the best looking RPG to date, heaps and miles ahead of every game.
With that said, although it is sad that the game in its vanilla state is lacking graphics fidelity, mods will improve the games looks ten folds. Ive been downloading the graphical improvement mods on nexus and already the game looks twice as good. I can only imagine what it'll get to in a month.
Still though, the vanilla graphics are disappointing. At least the game itself is epic. Honestly, the game is soooooooo much better than oblivion. The dungeons are designed marvelously, every dungeon feels unique, and Ive been ~20 so far. The side quest are the among the BEST i've ever experienced. Yes Im talking about side quests that have you transversing several landscapes into several unique dungeons following a trail of clues to uncover the lore behind a highly desirable peice of artifact.
Anyways, long story short, the game looks lackluster but that won't be the story for long. Graphics will keep improving until even the most finicky of players will appreciate the wonderfully DESIGNED world skyrim sets in. -

Nothing wrong with healthy debate. Also, I think nobody agrees with companies releasing a less than perfect game, but some acknowledge the necessity to do so from a business point of view.
Then again, let's move on.
I am sucked into Skyrim by now and love it more and more -
True. I'm actually waiting for a texture mod before I start playing the game again, and I think it will be THE game that I sink hundreds of hours into. I can't wait!
-
That being said, I do really enjoy Skyrim. Are the graphics the best there is by today's standards? No, but they still look good and are more than adequate to allow me to enjoy the game. Is the UI and menu system a little cluncky and consolish? Yes, but it is still playable and now that I am used to it I think I can get around the menus just as fast with a combination of the wasd keys and the mouse as I could of with a "PC optimized" menu.
When looking at the total package of the game there are places it could have been improved. That can be said for any game. But I do feel that the overall experience is great and will definitely be a worthy game of the year contender. -

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Just want to say that I appreciate the way you guys policed yourselves and got back on topic. Way to go. Be proud.
I'm confident that you can all stay on topic and not delve into tangential and unnecessary arguments going forward.
(No doubt the arguably inflammatory thread title didn't help matters much.)

games with good graphics noways dont really have a good story as i see them. things for me are getting very messy but lets see want will he next because i dont want to argue or whatever but i just cant believe why we complain just for graphics. -
PES - Project Enhanced Skyrim
This is a group of different mods and seems to cover most of the complaints about graphics. -
The TES modding community is awesome. I can't even imagine how many hours I'm going to sink into this game. I literally just discovered Falkreath last night after playing for 25 hours.
-
Yea it is truly ugly in some bits; but as a whole the game is a masterpiece!
I never expected bethesda to cater to all the demands of PC gamers; "Hey just use the kit n make it urself!" seems to be their strategy...
But it would be cool of they released a PC specific high res texture pack like Bioware did for DA2 -
ouch, i haven't seen skyrim yet, but judging the graphics i don't really mind, the most important thing is the content..
-
i think skyrim has amazing graphics for a rpg. op smokes crack
-
Anyone else feel like they copied and pasted the dungeons from FO3 ?
-
Someone tell me that's not absolutely gorgeous for an open world rpg of Skyrim's scale -
-
FO3 had dungeons?

As for graphics, come on bud, the game has been in development since oblivion project was wrapped up. They took the game in a different art direction to start. Oblivion went for realism, this is going for an art direction, more inline with morrowind because die hards complained to high heaven about how oblivion didn't look are play like morrowind. Now thats not to say some texures and models aren't garbage, because there is alot of that in this game, but rest assured guys like the ENB team and other modders will go in, rip all the textures out, and High res them. That alone will do wonders to the game. Also consider that the PS3 only has 256 of vid ram, and 360 is very similar, this game even in 1080p barely touches the 1gb on my card.
Next step is waiting for mod tools to be released, and then things like in game poly meshes can be upgraded, maybe even impliment DX11 code and hardware tesselation. But this is far from being a crappy looking game, and its definitely a bump up from New Vegas, no two ways about it.
How can people say Skyrim is not ugly?
