How do 965/960M compare to 800 series? Will 965M be slightly better in performance than the 860M? And 960M to be a rebranded 860M?

Any news on 960m? Will it be a new GPU or the good old 860m will be renamed?

960M is a rebadged 860M with higher clocks.

Nope, perf/price of 970M is way better. 965M is an overpriced underpowered card.

uhm, right now the 965M has a rather bad price/performance-ratio. at XoticPC you pay 70$ for the upgrade 965M->970M. this means only 6% price increase. in return you get 30% more perfromance in games. any more questions?

other resellers have similar prices. Schenker wants 93€ for the upgrade, because of their higher genral price (the P505 starts at 1350€ ;), this means 7%.

performancewise the 965M is nice in between the 860M/960M (same card, AFAIK) and the 970M. but pricewise it is a big fail right now.

It is discussed in-depth in the 965M thread. Basically 970M is like 30-50% faster for not much more money. When 965M released, they increased price of 970M and 965M took its place.

$1000 laptops ATM still only have 860M.

    Yes, P650SE with 970M is only $30 more than P650SA with 965M

Indeed.. You have to be an absolute or the most stingy person in the world not to spend the $30 more to get the 970M...

I do care about best performance / watt and not sure if that is 850m or 860m with ddr3 or with gddr 5?

860M with GDDR5 between those two. The DDR3 will have the lower absolute consumption but a bit less performance for each watt.

    970M and 980M have better perf/watt.

Yes, it befuddles me too. I see users spending $2k+ on a laptop yet skimp on things that matter. I can appreciate sticking to a budget but sometimes spending a little more will make you better off in the long run. Like people that buy a laptop for $2500 and constantly remove the battery, risking loss of data or damage to their machine, to save them the trouble of replacing an $80 battery in 3 years that will likely be dead by then anyhow. Or refusing to spend $10 on a tube of decent TIM when they had some generic stuff lying around from their desktop build five years ago and then complain that their temps are so high. And more from where that came from.

@both of you: there is no 860M with DDR3, only the 850M has that option. though I am lacking exact numbers, I can make some guesses based on the tests of NBC:

    - the 860M in the GE60 (with i7-4700) consumed 91W on average load (3D-Mark)
    - the 850M with GDDR5 in the GE70 (with i7-4700) consumed 90 W, too, but keep in mind the bigger display. so the GPU should be a little bit better concerning power losses. let's say 5 " less -> 5,5% less power losses
    - the 850M with DDR3 in the Asus GL550 (i7-4700, too) consumed 81 W on average load. -> 11 % less power losses.

now for the performance: lets just take Metro Last Light. the 850M DDR3 scores 22 fps (FHD@max settings), the 850M with GDDR5 26 fps and the 860M gets 28 fps. based upon the 860Ms fps that means -> 850M@DDR3 21% less performance, 850M@GDDR5 7,1% less performance.

verdict: get the 860M as the 850M@GDDR5 is almost on the same level 8perfromacewise as well as power losses but pricewise, too) but has VERY few laptops which offer it.

BUT: 980M draws 108W on average power, but gets a whooping 64 fps @Metro -> 18% more power drawn, but 128% better performance. 970M draws 103 W and gets 52 fps@Metro -> 13% more power drawn, but 85% better perfromance. so in the end, the 980M delivers the best performance/Watt.

Well if your'e so poor in those countries, don't buy expensive laptops.. Build a desktop or even better don't game.. It doesn't matter where you live, it's plain stupid to do this (I've done the same before, saving £2 and bought MX-4 paste which was junk.. ICD now is so much better)..

GTX 965M is the only one thats sort of worth it between the two cards.
GTX 960M is GM107 aka GTX 860M rebrand. Nothing special about it.
GTX 965M is GM204 with 1024 cores (960M 640 cores). Sad thing though is that it will be bandwidth limited due to 128bit bus. Same bandwidth as GTX 960M actually. Performance should be around GTX 870M and heat output should be much less so its no a bad card per say.

Like the other people have been saying, go for GTX 970M if you have the option. More cores and 192bit bus.

Well let me make things less blurry for you :)
Its not the matter of how much money do you have, it's a problem of availability :)
You simply DONT FIND where you can buy ICD Thermal paste
You can't buy genuine software (else from people who travel and bring you a physical copy : the only way used by everyone in here).
The batteries are not available or extremely expensive, so yes people just remove it because they know they will have to throw the entire laptop when the battery totally dies..
We dont have international shopping, cause our currency is "locked".
