Apologies in advance, but I really wasn't able to get a simple answer to this via google. Since most of you here are to certain degree passionate gamers, I thought some of you might be able to help me out on this.

I am about to format my notebook but would absolutely HATE to lose my character with all its experience and weapons in COD4. Is there ANY way I can extract/save a file so that when I re-install I can use him again? If so, could you explain it to me (but like you'd explain it to a 10 year old pls :D)

Thanks in advance for the help! :)

look for the folder "players" copy and save on a external media.

    how do I get there?

    -my computer
    -open "local disk (c)"
    -open "program files"
    -open "activision"
    -open"call of duty 4 - Modern Warfare
    -copy and save "players"

thats it and follow the same instructions when you paste except you will delete the folder before you paste.

Also this is not the place to post game stuff, dude....I think there is a section for this....

    Good Luck.

tlaube... before you do that, what version of Windows are you running?

From experience Xp, vista 32 bit, and vista 64 bit all have different places they store your "correct" profile. and on vista, weather your running in admin mode oon 32 bit makes a difference, found that one out the hard way.

Side note, if its too late, my profile has got all gold guns, and all challenges complete, so if you lose your info, I could send you mine.

true if its 64bit the folder will be "program files (x86)"

also if you have cod4 loaded and then install xfire it deletes your players. It happened to my nephew and he had all the gold guns..too.

^^^ what he said. Though it doesn't delete them, Its kind of confusing, But Xfire goes off the Admin profile, whereas w/o xfire, your using the user profile. theres a way to move your files to the admin folder, and just play as admin, which is what you want to do anyways.

See, when your using vista, though it says your an admin, your really not, or your not the master admin. and thats where the problem lies, Programs like Xfire use the admin path. there for its like you have 2 different COD4 locations. one under the {user name} the other under admin.

EXACTLY!!! I just found out 3 different directories in Program Files lol which all contained COD4, one had virtually nothing, another had a few more folders and the last one which i found via a really really odd path finally contained the "players" folder (YAY!!). Just in case I immediately uninstalled xfire to avoid any trouble. My char is still in that folder. So all I need to do in the new machine is to put in that folder in the player folder and im good to go?

Thanks soooo much guys for the info! It would be a real shame to lose my rank in poof like that :)

All you really need is the "mpdata" file.
