The best is with a hardware calibrator, an Spyder 3 or similiar , or you can use W7 display calibrator or the free software Calibrize.
Or if somebody has the same notebook as you and has an hardware calibrator and they email you their calibration profile.
Calibrize -
well it depends on display itself, some displays show best picture on default while some need calibration,i have slightly reduced brightness, gamma and increased digital vibrance by 12% to make display better.

I have never seen a laptop screen that is capable of producing accurate enough colors to be worth calibrating.
They (99% of consumer laptops) are all cheap TN panels and most of them now are glossy as well making it even worse.
They do/did have photo quality displays in the past, usually on very specific models of laptop or costing extra.
Just coming from a person that does photo/video work semi-professionally and who has 3x calibrated IPS 24" monitors, I would personally never calibrate my laptop screen nor do anything on my laptop that requires perfect color calibration. I would just adjust it by eye to what looks good and leave it at that.
Also note that sharing settings is totally a waist as even the exact same panel model on the same laptop can come off the line with totally different calibration settings. What works for you will not work for somebody else.
You neglected to tell us what laptop and what screen your using making it even much more of a crap shoot. -

Nice comparison between an IPS and an TN display.
