PCSX2 Playstation 2 emulator - News
Official English PCSX2 configuration guide v0.9.8 There is a setup guide.
That's probably the most popular PS2 emulator.
Pretty CPU intensive. -
Note that while emulators based on cartridges (SNES, Gameboy Advanced, etc.) work nearly 100% of the time, those based on discs (like the PS2 emulators) tend to be a little hit or miss. A lot of the games I play on the PS2 are either buggy on PCSX2 or outright unsupported, as is my beloved Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero.
-
I usually grab my PCSX2 build from their SVN page, then place my PS2 bios file inside the required folder.
It does however require a beefy CPU (Dual core or better) for most of the games so i think a AMD C-50 would struggle if thats the notebook you will emulate on.
Nintendo 64 games should run decent though, as would PS1 games. -

The PS1 has better emulators than the N64. The PS1 happens to use CDs, but it's older, whereas the n64 is cartridge based. After the n64, we don't have any really solid emulators for home consoles, but that has nothing to do with the content format. -

I must be the only person on earth that dislikes playing older games.
Even stuff that i was hugely into back in the day.. or nostalgic for, just seem painful compared to modern titles.. even stuff 5-10 years old sometimes feels just too dated. -

Been-there-done-that..
Now.. My kids, that had never experienced Descent or Wing Commander.. They love the older titles. -
The company that made the software vanished just as abruptly as the CD itself. This was back in the days where a single jewel CD case came in an A3 sized box. Talk about disappointments. -
Good old days... -
SNES play super mario world all stars, super mario kart, super bomberman 1-5, killer instinct (best fighting game), street fighter, super tennis and best of all donkey kong country.
Now these days only similar remakes of these games are as good. -

Now.. the SNES, i probably had 30 games for.. Mario was great, F-Zero, street fighter.. pilot wings.. had a lot of great titles there.
I guess i just kind of grew out of arcade games.
Now.. I do still have my Original NES system and about 50 Games. When i put in my 150" projector, i dusted it off and gave it a shot.. Seeing Mario 6 feet tall was kinda cool. But the novelty wore off pretty quickly for me.
Guess thats kind of the curse of having a good memory, you feel like you have just played those games not that long ago.
Also.. Graphics advances have not been kind to older games. From a nostalgic viewpoint, i put a lot of imagination into those pixels.. now.. Castlevania looks like a moving mosaic to me. -
The ps1 and 2 are mostly known for there jrpgs, doubly so if you can read japanese.. heh.
I dont think ps2 emulation is quite there yet, but ps1 is about 100%. -

Older stuff like NES/SNES and Genesis/variants are also 100% at this point afaik
there are free open source ps1 emulators that are basically pushing ~100%, namely "pSX", although others are also very good
newer than that, and it's iffy-
you've got solid but not perfect emulators for the n64, gamecube, and wii, and you've got decent emulators for the nintendo DS (desmume) and the PS2 (pcsx2).
the gamecube/wii emulator (dolphin) is, in particular, way ahead of it's time. -
The Wii emulator Dolphin is truly remarkable. Never before have you been able to emulate a console that is fairly current on PC so well. I'm getting to know the emulator well lately and am enjoying games that I never would have dreamed to play smoothly at high fps, all the while looking many times better than on the Wii itself. I'll be posting some new vids, I've tweaked the settings to make games look even better than on my last vid.

I think another amazing emulator that is worth mentioning is DeSmuME 0.9.8. I actually prefer playing my NDS games on that more than my actual NDS lite handheld. For the most part, I can play at 60 fps with good quality sound.
How do you do a PS2 emulator setup???
