How do you get game benchmark (like FEAR etc) without game? Can you?

I'm trying to see how my video card does with current games, for my review, but I don't have any newer games (yet) and don't want to install a bunch to test. Can I just d/l a program or custom game demo?

What other forms of video card benches are acceptible (besides future mark stuff) ;) ?

Oh and also how do you get the fps to show on games?

Use FRAPS to show your in-game FPS:
    http://www.fraps.com/
Just install it and minimize; it will sit in the system tray, and whenever you open a 3D application, it will show a frames counter in one of your screen's corners.

A couple of games you can download to test with:
    -FEAR demo
    -DOOM 3 demo
    -Battlefield 2142 demo

FRAPS has a benchmarking function in it - I believe it is F11 to start, then you press F11 again to stop benchmarking and it will show the average FPS. Basically, start a game, hit F11 to start the benchmark, then run thorough the level, and hit F11 just before it ends.

Some games have built-in benchmarks, although I'm not sure if the demos have that functionality.

Make sure you run each benchmark at least twice to ensure accuracy, and restart your computer before benchmarking.
