    I'm probably going to stop using my desktop once I get my new laptop (a Sager NP2090). I'm kinda curious how they will compare in power (well, mainly just with the video card).

    My desktop has an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, 1 gig of RAM, and a Geforce 6800GT.

    The 2090 will have a T7300, 2 gigs of RAM, and the 8600M GT.

    Obviously the CPU of the laptop will be much faster, and the extra gig of RAM will be nice, but how much better is the 8600M GT than the 6800 GT? I know it's probably kinda hard to compare desktop/notebook GPUs, but a ballpark estimate will do if someone can provide it, for my curiousity's sake ;)

    let see:
    1)single to dual (about two times the power)
    2)1gig to 2gig(game performance increase and vista experience)
    3)6800 to 8600gt (agp to express slot(is it??) and furuture proof)

    hmm the interface doesn't really change anything.

    you can't upgrade it so it isn't future proof in that sense.

    oh wait you got a sager, maybe you can upgrade it i haven't looked.

    the 8600m gt will scale better with new games, if thats what you mean.

    its definitely a stronger card, dx10 might further separate the gap if that matures quickly (crysis). its hard to say...

    8600 GT about 30% to 40% faster on newer games. Older about the same.

    Disclaimer: based on 3DMark (boo, hiss) yea I know.

    The Core 2 Duo T7300 is MUCH more than twice as fast as an athlon XP (not athlon 64 or 64 X2). Roughly 4x or something. At Least.

    Your laptop should beat the crude out of your desktop =). Better processor, more ram, better video card. Over better performance.
