Just curious how my system compares graphically, keeping in mind quality and playability, to the newest console systems.

Geforce 9800 GTS 512 mb DDR3

Way way way better.
Except maybe on a really poorly optimized game like GTA IV, then only slightly better. -
No contest. Your laptop will obliterate the living life out of consoles. Just watch out for a few bad ported games like the poster above said.
-
saints row 2 is another bad port aparently. im just hoping with all my life that mirrors edge will be a good port, and be playable on a 9200 gs... pleeeeease dont be like crysis!!!!

After first playing fallout 3 on an xbox 360, i got it on my computer hoping the gfx would be better, but they werent
At least the load times were ALOT shorter.
My specs:
1.8ghz dual core
7600 GT
3GB RAM -

yeah, agreed. Those specs should last you for quite some time (until perhaps the 720).Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
Yeah
Nice rig you got there
Should serve you well -
Your processor is much worse, but everything else is much better.
-
Lol, every single mobile processor is nothing compared to the PS3's and 360s
-
Well PS3´s CPU is an in of order CPU and ours is out of order CPU. That is the PS3´s CPU is better at number crunching, but in gaming an Core2Duo runs circles around the Cell.
Yes your notebook completely destroys the 360 and PS3 in matter of performance. -

But if the cells spu's are programmed for correctly alot of post processing can be offloaded from the gpu onto it, its also a good vertex shader -
Even my old laptop looks better than my xbox 360.
My xbox looks weaker mostly because of the lack of AA and the max output of 720p resolution.
But my 360 is much easier to play when I have a couple of friends over. It was cheap as well when I bought it.
P.S. Don't buy GTA4 for the PC, it is a terrible port. At least wait till some decent patches are out. -
You're laptop, TECHNICALLY, is a much more powerful machine. But ask yourself, is it a better gaming machine for YOU? Obviously, you're in FPS, RTS and MMORPG heaven on your laptop. But many games are on the consoles that are not on the PC.
Choose your games and then choose a platform. Doesn't really matter anyway. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are dirt cheap compared to laptops. Get them as a side dish. Heck, I don't know why a lot of people here sneer and turn away from consoles. It's like they're cursed that if they ever touch a 'lowly, crapsh1t gaming console' they'll lose all their dignity and self-worth as a 'true' gamer.

Lack of AA? The daughter-die of the Xbox 360's Xenos GPU handles 4x FSAA and Z-buffering at absolutely zero performance penalty. Basically, it's free anti-aliasing. The Xbox 360 doesn't operate exactly like your typical x86 PC. And the max output isn't 720p. Many of the games do run on 720p due to hardware rendering limitations, but there are some games that do run at 1080p. I have Virtua Tennis 3 for the Xbox 360 and it runs at 1080p without a hitch on my friend's 1080p TV (I only have a 1080i/720p TV). Please get your facts straight. -
Yes but still most games lacks AA, especially on the PS3. I have an 360 myself by the way.
However my computers totally destroys my 360 and a PS3 too for that matter. -
PS3 uses modified RSX NV47 ala GF 7900 with 128bit mem bus (performance similar to 7900GS)
360 uses Xenon which is like X1900 with unified shader, so it performance is like X1950Pro
So basically if your gfx is better than 7900GS/X1950Pro then it is more power than PS3/Xbox 360
And cell is no match for the unified shader on HD4800/GTX280 lol (check F@H for crunching number) -
How does my system compare to a PS3/Xbox360?
