I haven't really been keeping up with laptop hardware and am trying to decide between a xps16 with the ATI 4670 and a dv8t with the GT230. Is there much of a difference between the gaming performance of these two cards? Also, is there any talk of the ATI 4670 being replaced soon?

The 4670 is the more powerful card.

Plans to replace the 4670 probably exist but I wouldn't be able to tell a release date. The top end of the desktop 5000 series from ATI have been released but there has not been anything about a mid range 5 series mobile card yet. When it does come out it will be a bit more powerful and have support for Directx 11.

Mobile 5000 won't be in notebooks until next year.

The closest thing I can think of as a viable replacement for a 4670 would be a 4830.
