I'm interested in playing battlefield 2 (i already play it on my desktop with a 6800 gt), fear, half life 2, and battle for middle earth. If any of you have these games or any others, what settings do you play these games at and what frames are you getting?

Thanks for replying! I'm new here, btw! :D

    Welcome!

You will be able to max out HL2. I don't know about the other games as I don't have a 7900gs, sorry.

You should be able to max those games out easily and enable some nice 4xaa or 6xaa.

I can run those games with up to 2xaa on my x1600 256mb.

I've always been a pc gamer so I keep thinking that laptops won't be able to game as well with today's games. In addition to my original question, what desktop video card does the go 7900 gs compare to?

I have a 6800 gt on my desktop and a 7900 gs on my laptop. I don't know just how high you can go but I will be able to safely say that you can go significantly higher on the 7900gs than on a 6800gt. I have benchmarks from my laptop in my sig (I am getting 3dmark06 right now) and my desktop 6800gt only did about 66% of those scores below.

This is what we have the stickied threads for, please check them next time before you post.

The Go7900GS is slightly slower than a desktop 7800GT.

Sorry, I checked the stickies but I didn't find any that gave me specific info on how a majority of the games would run on 7900gs. I'll be more careful next time.

    Greetings metalarmored,
Well i've run HL2 & HL2EP1 with everything maxed out. HL2 ran well over 60 FPS touching 130 FPS quite frequently. HL2EP1 touched 110 FPS with the lowest being 35 FPS. FEAR runs lowest at 29 FPS and the maximum it touches is 129 FPS. I've maxed out everything in FEAR as well. Please note that FEAR is an extremely graphics intensive game. So i would suggest you use i8kfangui and set your fan speed to "Force to High" to keep your card cool. Specs of my system in my sig. I hope that helps !

you can play all games close to max settings at 1440x900 resolution, if you go to the 1920x1200 resolution you might not get the frames you want and might have to lower the eye candy

there is a mod that OCs the 7900gs by flashing the 7900gtx bios and people are getting the performance of the 7900gtx, with that mod you should be able to play everything that is out now with max settings and resolution

search the notebookforums in the dell 17inch section for this mod

Would that mean that there's no point in getting the 7900 gtx?
