Does anyone play this game? How does this game compare to BFBC2? I heard that performance was terrible when it was first released, did they fix it with patches??

It's a combat simulator. BF:BC2 is an arcade shooter. Two totally different types of games that cannot be compared. If it makes you feel any better however, apparently ArmA2 sucked according to reviews and few sales of the game.
Stay away from it. -
Have you even played it usapatriot? Harsh words. Appears you are basing your entire "stay away" comment on some reviews without playing it.
It's a fun game, is much more detail oriented than BC2 for sure. There is tons of stuff to do, and performance wise I haven't had any major issues. It runs fine on both my M11x and my two Asus's laptops, those running it very well.
I particularly like the helicopter aspects, much more enjoyable than my experience with the BC2 helicopters. But there's also jeeps, trucks, tanks jets, etc. It's truly a battlefield simulator, slower paced, and can be much more challenging. That can be either good or bad though depending on what you are looking for. Compared to BC2, it's not quite as polished and cinema/over the top, and bullets hurt a lot more! There's an entire training mode that takes longer to complete than many singleplayer campaigns in other games. Very thorough and enjoyable though.
If you are looking for a game like MW2/BC2, then this will be quite a bit different. I sure wouldn't say worse, but definitely not a similar experience other than both feature modern weapons that you shoot at other people. -

No, I have not played it. But I have seen a few gameplay videos and read more than just a few complaints about the game. It seems far too realistic for my tastes, near the point of being a complete annoyance. Personally, I would not spend $30 on the game, maybe if it were $14.99 or something I might try it out.

You are comparing a system that was built to train real soldiers with an arcade shooter. Due to this Arma 2 is a simulation first and a game last. Attempt the same tactics in Arma 2 that you would have in BC2 and you will die!

Personally I love Arma 2 but it is notorious for its poor optimisation. Even powerful desktops struggle with that game and you will probably be forced to lower a lot of settings. Whether the game runs fine or not is down to personal opinion really. On the laptop in my sig, some levels play fine but others only play well with low settings but that may be due to the fact that I always play at native resolution above all else.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
i was going to say same as laptop nut
Even on my rig it is so badly optimised that its not worth playing for me -
I really like it. Playing co-op against the game with 40 people online is a blast. It really is a simulator so there's quite a steep learning curve when you start out. For me its one of those games that I can't wait to get a beastly computer to see in all its glory. It's a bit buggy, need a good system to run but it delivers the military sim I was looking for. Lots to do and learn.
Last time I played we had a triple helicopter collision at dusk on route to objective. Was unbelievable! If the price is low, you have extra cash and want an Army simulator, I'd say grab it.
How is ARMA 2? ONLY FOR $29.99 on impulse this weekend
