    Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my laptop, and purchase something which is a good all round performer. As well as doing ordinary processing and multimedia tasks, I would like to be able to play some computer games, not really heavy FPS' as such, but games like Minecraft, Napoleon Total War, and Morrowind :L

I have a budget of £450 and I've found an HP DV6 refurb, link: HP Pavilion dv6-6156ea Refurbished 15.6" Laptop - Steel Grey at cheap prices | Pcworld

Could you tell me if this laptop would run games at a medium or moderate setting. Like I said I'm not looking for Alienware or planning to play heavy games on it.

Any other recommendations are much appreciated

    Thank You

A 6490m is not really designed for gaming, anything really graphics intensive it will crumble so most likely will play games on low but it should run games like you listed well.

I reckon a 6490m should run games on low at high fps and medium/ high on others but there are plenty of better laptops out there. I would advise getting something with a gt 640m like this as the graphics card is 3x more powerful but the cpu is just adequate and I am sure you can search around for something like this for £475:

I see someone bought the gt 640m acer, was that you :D

You can always add rep points :D by going to the next icon to the username which is past the green icon which says add to .......... reputation if you think I deserve any.

If you didn't buy it then I am sure there will be more good deals around. :D

    Hi there,

No that wasn't me unfortunately, although I'm going to look out for that model of computer now. I'd probably get one new with a warranty, but then get the smaller hard drive :)

And I repped your first response and I'll have another go

    Cheers :)

did you buy the acer with gt 640m :)

I reckon if you look round and can get a budget of around £600 you can get one great laptop.

No I didn't get that one, but I will be looking out for a new one. I was bit apprehensive about getting it because there was no warranty. I can get one off Amazon with a 320GB hard drive for the same price though :)

Hi, It's me again, I've found this M3 Ultrabook and was just wandering if its the same one as you recommended. Also is an i3 Prosessor enough?

    Thanks :D

If you're quick you can nab a Samsung 550P with a 650m and i5 (see my sig) for around £600 as you can claim back VAT on Samsung notebooks bought before 23:59 BST 6th June.

@moviemarketing - unfortunately for us HP have not made that particular model available to us in the UK
