I just purchased a new Santa Rosa based Macbook a few days ago and I've been happy with it for my mobile computing needs. I have a desktop for gaming but I was wondering what the GMA X3100 is actually capable of. I have low expectations, but I was wondering if some users could post the rest of their system specs along with the game and frame rate they've been experiencing with the X3100. Also, what dedicated GPU is this comparable to? The rest of my Macbook specs are in the sig... Thanks!

Keep your expectations low. If you wish to play games like Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock etc. don't bother trying. Even if the card can run the games listed above you're looking at lowest possible resolution and details for playable framerates. I don't know how RAM hungry Leopard but more RAM definitely helps since you only have 1Gb right now. I'd say your Macbook can play semi-old games like Sims 2 quite nicely. Most dedicated GPUs should blow the X3100 out of the water as integrated cards don't do games well.

There's an X3100 gaming thread kicking around somewhere.

I'd guess you could manage FEAR or Bioshock on low low settings at low res... realistically to get it to play something well at high res and decent fps/settings you're looking at WoW or GTA Vice City and nothing much more complex than that.

It will never be able to play modern games very well because its integrated and uses shared memory

The X3100 is far superior to the GMA950 but is far inferior to the current generation dedicated solutions.
