Hey im looking to buy a laptop in the next month (hopefully in the january sales!) for normal stuff, internet and homework - and the specs seem naturally capable and fast for these - but would the specs and graphics card for this laptop be able to cope with mediochre gaming with games such as battlefield, counter-strike source and total wars?

The GPU is quite low-end, but should be able to handle CS Source. Not sure about Battlefield and Total Wars as I haven't played them yet.
-
My laptop can play battlefield 2 with over 30 fps. No problems. I believe your GPU is a little better than mine so I'm sure you would be able to play all those games no prob.
-
Okay, well the battlefields are all relatively old and wont need so greater specs to get going well as CSS would so if that plays decently then i guess i can pull them off - and as for total wars, theyre based around a simple map with small battles so id expect that to work aswell.. thanks

Total wars are iffy. Probably will play rome well, difficulties with medieval 2 and very little chance with empire
-
ah :S it was medieval total war 2 i was hoping to get going on the laptop cus it wont install on the pc :S
why would it be difficult to play medieval 2 - even on low settings? -
Stress test on CS:S on my lappy I get 60 fps.
-
u can play CSS very well and BF and Total war. I even play em on my laptop which is waaay slower
-
ya u shud be able to no problemo
merry xmas to u to -
thanks everyone

If you are sticking with the low end integrated GPUs (like the HD3100 you have there) but want to game up to the new Total War games, try for the AMD HD3200 or Nvidia 9400M chips. Otherwise, I'd assume the 3100 will 'run' everything, but I am not sure how playable they will make newer stuff.
EDIT: Based on the information I just read, I believe that the HD3100 should be just fine, it is the same as the HD3200, albeit clocked at 300MHz instead of the 500MHz on the HD3200, regardless, it has the same number of shader processors. In the end they perform similarly, with the HD3200 about 15% faster. If you really felt the need, you could try overclocking the HD3100 using RivaTuner or something, effectively turning it into an HD3200. -
I really dont know how this works or would work or.. means? what..is overclocking and rivatuner?
Ill try and do some research now.. -
after some.. wikipedia-ing i kinda get it.. but apparently somebody not cut out to doing it (me!) can permanently kill their graphics card - overclocking can cause the card to severely overheat and damage itself and apparently even become a fire risk.. (?)
ehh.. that ideas not for me basically
thanks though for the help
How is this laptops graphics for mediochre gaming?
