How long do you think an 8800M GTS will last? (Until the majority of new games can't be played on Mid settings)
How long do you think an 9500M GS will last? (Until the majority of new games can't be played on Mid settings)
And how do these compare to a 7900 GTX?

with the resolution on your gateway (1440x900), I would say at least 3 years. at least!! if you upgrade the CPU to x9000, it could push even further.
9500m gs = 8600m gt is i am not mistaken? maybe 1-2 years
7900 GTX certainly more powerful than 9500M GS but nowhere close to 8800m GTS -

I dnt know how long.I think 2 years would be a safe bet.I remember though my old card had enough power,it couldn't play max payne and games after that because it didn't have "T&L".

minutes! You've got a couple of years for both.
-
NICE. If I could get three years of gaming from the gateway I would be a very happy happy man. I take it if I really wanted to I could turn down everything to low and maybe stretch it a year? And say DX11 comes out, can I play the games that use it on DX10?

1 8800MGTS will last 2-3 years in gaming for sure, since it`s a high end card today.
A 9500M GS has about 1-1.5 years of life until it becomes too old.
A 7900GTX=1/2 8800M GTS, 1 9500MGS=1/3 8800M GTS. -
I can't foresee DX11 to become mainsteam within 5 years. and when it does, you will probably have a laptop with quad GPU inside already.
edit: nice to see similar comment eleron911. -
lol ok cool... Can't wait for my gateway
-
DX10 isn't even mainstream, DX9 is still in my opinion the norm. DX11 being the norm will take a while, a long while.
-
I've got the Nvidia 6200, and I'm just now not being able to run the newest games even if I want to.
-
Nvidia 6200? Why the hell did you get that?
-
Its actually in my 6 year old desktop, its not like it was new at the time I got it either XD
-
DX11? DX10 basically just came out. DX9 came out in 2002. DX9c came out 2004. DX9c is still having new releases. Given that lifecycle, even taking in to concideration that DX10 is the first of a new architecture for DX, I don't think we'll be seeing DX11 taking hold for at least a few years.

Closing this thread . . . it's nothing but speculation and is not helping anyone. There is no way to tell how long your graphics card will last.
How lond do you think these will last?
