I'm planning on getting a system with these specs:

    Mobile AMD® Turion™64 MT-40 CPU [2.2GHz, 1MB Cache] w/Hyper Transport Technology

    1 GB DDR 400 PC-3200 RAM

    80 GB 7200 RPM HD

    250MB ATI Radeon x1600

My question is how long with this system last in the gaming world?

You should be alright for a little while. You've got a pretty good setup. :)

I was planning on upgrading later. I havn't really got the cash at the moment. Actually at the moment all I got is around 500 lol.

My choices are either the asus s96j with that configuration or get an HP with the x1400 and about the same price... so I decided to wait and go with the asus s96j.

Do you think it'll last a few years?

Get the Asus, much better quality than HP. Much better graphics also, for the same price ;) It'll last a couple of years :)
