So i was wondering, how long in your opinion would the 8600m gs be able to play new/newer games at medium settings? I am thinkng about buying the asus f3sv-a1 due to my budget of $1600 but i want to know that this card is going to last me for a couple years before i click buy. I wouldnt mind buying the compal Ifl90 but I dont know if I want to wait for it to come out. Thanks for any help in advance.

should be able to play most games at its native res.
i've only had problems with my 7600 when trying to output to a higher res. monitor
everything at native res. is great

At medium settings? I really doubt the 8600M GS will be able to play Crysis at medium settings. I think you'd last on low settings on new games until 2009. Realistically, laptop graphics cards aren't the most future-proof graphics cards. The most future-proof laptop graphics cards are in the large 17" behemoths, like the Geforce Go 7950GTX, but not everyone wants to lug around a 17" laptop.

The 8600M GS will run any game from the current generation fine at medium settings. If you really want to be futureproof, either go large-scale with the laptop, or buy a cheap laptop for traveling purposes, and then build your own custom-rig desktop. For $250 you can get an extremely futureproof Geforce 8800GTS, which will last you for the next 3 years.

I agree with fren, if you would like some good years of solid performance I recommend waiting for 8800 on laptops (mid summer) or get a 7900 GS or better.

You definitely should get at least a few years of good performance out of it. I have a go 6600 and i can run most games at medium settings at least at 1280x800

I would say not very long (1-2 yrs) since the 8 series is Nvidia's testing ground for DirectX 10. I bet the 9 series will be a huge jump from the 8 series once DirectX 10 settles.

That would just mean we would all want to replace it, not that we would necessarily need to :)
