Alright, so I took the advice of a few members here and downloaded FRAPS to verify what sorts of FPS I was getting during gameplay. During Battlefield 2 I was staying at around 90 or so. But, during HL2, I was at a consistent 110-120!! CS:S, similarily showed an average of 147fps on its video stress test.
So, I'm curious, what kinds of FPS are you all seeing on your games? Or better yet, what is the highest average FPS you've been able to achieve? Please list the game and its corresponding fps.

with my X700, i run Quake4 at high settings at 1280x800 at 40-60FPS
Alternately, I got around 3300 in 3DMark05 -

You should really post the resolution you are playing at during those games. It will level the playing field a little bit.

true that, but he just maked a comment how good the program was. Specs comes later.

Oops...you're right. For HL2 and CS:S, I was using the 16:10 aspect ratio and the next to highest resolution available in the game settings (if I use the highest settings, it runs fine, but it doesn't show gun/ammo properties correctly.....weird huh?)
For BF2, I was using the max resolution available (I'm at work, so I'm not exactly sure what that res is at the moment) -

Nice...I can't wait until I get an uber desktop.

Ive got the i9400, 1.83 ghz duo, 1 gig ddr2 ram, oc'd 7800 go, and I play CS:Source with full settings (everything set to highest, 6x AA, 1920x1200 resolution), and I get an average resolution of 95 FPS.
Quake 4 is on high settings, 1600x1000 resolution, x2 AA, and I get between 50-60 FPS (There is a cap so that the FPS cant go above 60 fps). -
those are some nice fps rates CaliDell, thats a great video card you have.
honestly, the eye can't even detect a difference between 90 fps and then 110-120 fps. those are some killer rates for those games tho -

The minimum framerate to play with is 30, anything below that and you should turn some settings or the resolution down to get more playable frames.
I shoot for the mid-40's-50's on my X700, as that is as much as I can ask for out of it. If I had a more powerful card (i.e., 7800GTX), I'd shoot for 60FPS, that's the best. Anything over that doesn't matter.

on my desktop, i can play BF2 @ 1680x1050 everything maxed, with a solid 100-110 fps..CS:S, everything maxed, same resolution at 150-250fps (not stress test, in game)..ffxi is capped at 30, so its never below 30.
on my laptop, BF2 plays very well on medium settings on (I THINK) 1280x1024..about 30fps (if i take AA off, it will be higher)..CS, maxed at 72fps (almost never lower)..ffxi is capped at 30, and never below it at 1680x1050.

What sort of FPS do console games run like (IE Xbox, ps2, gamecube)? Im assuming they run at a constant rate of 60...well it feels like 60 anyway, since most televisions are 60hertz.

No, they run at probably 30FPS constant (or try to). I can tell you that the frames drop into the high teens during some more intensive scenes on a console.
60Hz = 30FPS.

well mafia on XBOX, runs at 30fps, since the PC port is capped at 30fps..i would assume each console runs at the same FPS..it could also be so smooth, because games are capped at 30fps, but the hardware is much more powerful..and can hold 30fps all day and night.

30 is very low...so is the reason why everything seems so smooth because it is CONSTANTLY at 30 fps (since it is a safe, relativly low FPS)? When I used to play PC games at 30 fps, it was noticably slow and choppy, however everything seems very smooth when I play on any console game.

i9300. 6800go no o/c. 2gb ram. 1.86 ghz. 80 gb 7200 hdd. Playing BF2 @ 1440x900. All settings on medium with 4 x AA. Getting constant 60 fps but will drop if smoke is on screen. AA just makes the game look alot better.
How many FPS??
