    ... I opted for a 8400M GS instead of an Intel X3100 GPU? Also, will heat have a noticeable increase using a 8400M? or does it run pretty cool? Talking about a Pavilion dv2500t

    Just set your laptop power settings to sip power, and it shouldn't matter much. For desktop work, the 8400m (or any card for that matter) and integrated chipset are both doing the same amount of work. The total power consumption difference will be minimal.

    I just got my replacement Vostro 1500 (with 8600m GT), and didn't even charge the sucker when I got it. I essentially did all the windows updates (using wireless), reorganized start menu, configured most of my critical software, repartitioned, and then defragged, with multiple reboots in between. This took over two hours, and still had 30% battery life left. With all that hard drive activity, wi-fi, unzipping files, rebooting, that's pretty impressive. And I'm sure the 8400m will fare even better.
