My current HP (model # in sig) has a turion II x2 @ 2.3 ghz, Radeon 4650 with 1gb dedicated RAM, and 4gb RAM. I bought it 3 years ago for 750 and it still runs many of the most demanding current games on medium settings with a decent framerate. I can run Crysis (I know it's an old game but it's still one of the best looking/most demanding) on medium high settings with a framerate around 25-30.

    This computer looks good

but I'm not really up to date on the latest cpu's and gpu's. Can anyone give me any idea how much better for games the a8 apu would be overr the cpu/gpu in my current system? My current laptop handles everything I can throw at it (at least at medium settings), so I don't want to upgrade to the a8 system in the link unless it will give me a significant performance gain.

That wouldn't really be an upgrade- HD4650 is 320 stream card working @550MHz while HD7640G that is running the show in the HP is a 256 stream with higher clocked core up to 655MHz but without dedicated memory.

If you ignore the fact that HD7640G does support DX11 while HD4650 only supports DX10 (and you should since you won't be able to use any DX11 goodies with decent fps anyway) these are pretty close in benchmarks.

So no point in spending money if you expect better performance.

Yup, like downloads said, you aren't really looking at an upgrade there. A upper tier i5 and a GT 650m or equivalent would be an upgrade worth spending for, imo.
