The 7900GS is somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 times as fast as the 9800Pro - plus has support for Shader Model 3.0 and PureVideo, meaning better quality to boot.

I also had a 9800pro (AIW) and then got a Dell 9400 (one of the first ones back in January with a 7800go). Here's the approximate 3Dmark scores for comparison:

    9800 pro: 3DMark05 = 2500, 3DMark06 = 900
    7800 stock: 3DMark05 = 3800, 3DMark06 = 2400
    7800 OC'd: 3DMark05 = 5500, 3DMark06 = 3300
    7900 stock: 3DMark05 = 6500, 3DMark06 = 3500
    7900 OC'd: 3DMark05 = 8500, 3DMark06 = 4500

So, going by that, an overclocked 7900 would be 4 times as fast as a 9800pro :)

his scores arent inflated. Many NBR users have reported the same findings. It is very underclocked from Dell.

Yeah I too can vouch for the overclocking results. At stock on 3dmark05 I got around 6600, after overclock I'm at 8500. For 3dmark06 I went from 3800 to 5200

Isnt that a bit overflaited (dont know that word, sorry) Final Spirit? The 512 MB 7900GTX had a score of 4800 in 3dmark06. You tell me yours is faster with overclock then a 512 MB 7900GTX?

    Charlie :)

If you'd look at my clockspeeds vs. the stock clockspeeds you'd see where the increase is coming from. The default voltage and clocks are 1.00v (possible 1.1v, someone verify this?), 375/1000. The voltage now is 1.24 running at 575/1150, which is a major increase.

Also, I do not have the WUXGA screen, so my scores will be higher than any computers with the higher resolution (1920x1200 vs 1440x900). And 4800 for a gtx is pretty low. I've seen OC results get above 5.5k

5200 for a highly OC'd gs is normal, and far below other people's results. check out this post at notebookforums.com for benchmark results for overclocked cards, then call bs on our results.

hehe. Controversy. Cool. For arguments sake, the only numbers that are "mine" are the 7800. I never had a chance to run 3DMark on my 9800 pro. The other scores I took from Tom's Hardware VGA charts and from the list(s) posted at Notebook Forums.

It was only intended to give a comparison, or average; everyone's scores will be different (maybe slightly, maybe more).

I thought myself that the 7900 would only be a *small* upgrade from the 7800, but I'm impressed by the results people are getting :)
