The second model will beat the first one easily. Superior graphics and much stronger processor will do a huge part in new games. CoD4 is not a very hadware intensive game and first HP dv6780 would run it OK on medium settings, but for new and future games you should go with second model, without doubt.

The HP 9774ca absolutely massacres the dv6780se. The couple extra hundred is totally worth it.

The 8600m GS isn't too good. If you're gonna be dishing out that much money, try and get an 8600m GT, it's much faster/better.

This is is a very good point. For the cost, you really should look for an 8600m GT. For a laptop around $1400, there should be a GT, not the GS. If you are set one one of those two, take the better rig, but I'd ditch both, and look for something with the 8600m GT.

    Nice catch, vashts121.

Oh I somehow overlooked the Blu-ray drive. That is a good deal. Then I have to say that it's the best comp for you. Go for it.

yeah i just checked out a xps with the GT card and blu ray. It totaled to almost 2 grand CDN and it lacked some features the 9774ca has, albiet it is a nice machine, but it looks like this HP is a better deal.

Oh, I overlooked the blue ray aspect. Now, you have to prioritize which is more important: gaming or blue ray, or save up your money and get both. You should really go for the 8600m GT if you're a serious gamer, and want everything maxed. If you don't mind medium-low and maybe lower resolutions than your default, than just get the GS; but from first hand experience I can tell you there is a huge difference between the two, performance wise.

Just so you know...Another member has the HP with 8600 gs and COD4 is choppy . I'll know if a 8700 GT will play it good tomarrow when my 5793 arrives.

    I still play COD4 on my 360.

I can play COD4 on high/max at 60 FPS with my machine in signature, which costed only $1199.

For 1399 , also from bestbuy, you could get the Gateway FX which utterly kills those 2 laptops put together.
Futureproof, cheap and hardcore gaming. Almost a paradox...
