Thinking about picking this game up, but I don't want to pay the monthly fee. Is it worth it without the additional features for those that pay a subscription fee?

    don't pay the fee...
spend your money on other MMORPGs...definitely not Hellgate...
beat the game myself, and definitely not worth the money (No...not even the single player part...)

you know what you get w/subscription? the ability to traverse the singleplayer maps with your friends...ha! Yeah...if you have to play the game, play the game solo....or just spend the money on games like...WOW or Guild Wars(which has FREE online play)....don't play Hellgate....

How recently did you play the game? And did you dislike the single player because it was boring or because it was buggy?

Apparently the single and multiplayer aspects of the game require separate patches and the single player aspect hasnt received very much attention.

hey im a player of hellgate london and i pay 10$ each month.
I was an old player of d2 and i played it 5 years i was know in d2SJP and whole community so i know what im talking about.
I tried hellgate in december and i was like OMG this game is just crazy , even more addictive to D2.
But the game suffered from many many issues, bugs, glitch etc...
ONLY multi was patched ( who play mmorpg in solo ffs..?)
1.1 fixed most of the bug....so the game was going to be perfect.

BUT 1.2 was released this morning with tons of contents...im just playing like a junkie man....

THIS GAME IS CRAZY DONT PLAY IT IF YOU ARE ADDICTED TO VIDEO GAMES, THIS IS DIABLO 3.

The content added in 1.2 didnt seem like that much to me. At least not so great as to make a game suddenly worth 10 dollars per month anyway. Not saying the game isnt worth a monthly fee (I havent played), but the readme from 1.2 didn't impress me.

dude you dont have to pay 10$ to play multi but only suscribers can access to new area, get new weapons etc...

So final advice = try multi now and if you want more content take the 10$ monthly fee

Exactly how much more content is available for a fee? A couple weapons and new areas? Or hundreds of weapons and dozens of new and unique areas?

From what I've read the new content just didn't seem like that much.

Hmmmm something like 35% more .(area: stonehenge+weapons) yep thats not big but when you love the game those 35% are huge :)
Moreover when you take the fee you have new features like a mail for all your chars etc....

Just try the free multi .... you ll see. that game is very very nice.

Well, I decided to pick the game up despite all the negative press. I have had a lot of fun with it, besides the occasional crash. It doesn't seem any more repetitive than Diablo 2. Then again, I am only lvl 21.

The next patch is adding new PvP options, which could attract many new players.

Even without bugs I still don't see how people can get hooked on this game. It felt like playing a ten year old mediocre game updated to crappy graphics and even worse optimization by todays standards. But even with amazing graphics it would still have horrible gameplay and story.
