Hi!
i have a laptop with a 8400gs with 400mhz/400mhz stock... i would like to OC a bit, but i dont want to burn my GPU and i also would like my laptop to last a lot.... what frequencies should i go for? is 500/500mhz too much?
thanks!

it's not worth oc'ing it. you're not going to get all that much of a performance jump and it'll void any warranties you might have.

If you want your laptop to last, I wouldn't recommend overclocking at all. Notebooks are a very controlled environment, and heat management is much more difficult on a notebook than on a desktop. A 25% clock increase could lead to a nearly equal heat increase, which could be fatal to your system.
Whether you do a 100MHz overclock or a 10 MHz, it's going to void your warranty either way, so I would suggest at least waiting until your warranty runs out to overclock. -
Overclocking does not void your warranty. Does it?
-
Not if you do it at a driver level at least.

The act of overclocking might not void the warranty, but there's no laptop company in the world that would HONOR the warranty if they found out that the heat damage to a notebook resulted from overclocking (and they would probably blame overheating in an overclocked system on overclocking, even if they couldn't prove it).

unfortunately you're stuck with the 8400 my friend. don't feel bad though, i,m stuck with one myself but i can still run Cod4 and UT3 at pretty respectable frame rates on low/mid settings and hl2 maxed out.

Overclocking isn't that bad. With the Intel Core 2 Duo's they run cool, and you can undervolt them to reduce overall system temperature by 10-15C. I o/c'd my 8600m GT from GPU: 475 to 590 and Mem: 400 to 490 with sytem temps not exceeding 65C, usually runs 60C when loaded.

yeh undervolting is good , I used to overclock , not anymore... WB undrclocking , is that alright with manufactures?
How much to overclock?
