Through work, I get a 12% discount off of anything I buy from Dell, so even at 3000, the price drops to 2640, making the XPS line a feasible purchase, should Dell upgrade to 8700m and 8800m (if they're released) gpus.

Historically, how quickly does the XPS line specifically adopt the highest end cards?

Dell doesn't even have the 8600M or 8400M available yet which probably means they wont have the 8800M or 8700M available for at least another 3-4 months.

The new XPSM1330 is scheduled (tentatively) to be announced next week and released July 10th. I would imagine that if Dell has any plans on updating the M1710 any time soon, you will hear about it in the next 2-3 weeks.

its in dell's best interest to upgrade to the newest tech when it becomes available, because people (like you) will pay a premium for it.

(me too, i just bought a new laptop)

8600's were just released two weeks ago ish? expect them to show up within 2 more weeks. 8800m isnt out yet. so maybe 2-4 weeks after they come out, you will see them in notebooks.
