Talking about running and getting smooth frame rates, I can get NFS Most Wanted to run on my GF4 MX440. Needless to say, the graphics sucked, and I stopped playing after a few hours on it.

Anyways, I tried NFS carbon on another comp, with a desktop X1600pro, on all high details with AA and AF turned off, and it ran fine. I think your X3100 should suffice for medium/low settings

I think the Asus G1S would do that pretty well, plus its a great laptop overall.

I tried NFSMW on a Dell Inspiron B130 with integrated Intel graphics. On the lowest settings, it was playable but not satisfactory. In graphically "busy" sections of the race, framerates would drop to single digits, and it rarely got any better than 20 or so. These are not measured framerates -- just my perception of how the game was doing, based on playing it on a better machine with framerates reported.
