    Hello everybody
i've been trying for weeks to find for a solution to this, googling everywhere, nothing , it seems it's not a common thing.
The problem is very easy, all the times i close the lip of my laptop the screen goes black.. and someone would ask me why would i care.. well it's easy, sometimes i close the lid of my laptop leaving it ON.. and then i connected remotely to my pc. in that case if my lid is down.. on my pc it just wont work.
let me explain my self better: let's say i'm watching a youtube video. and i connect remotely with team viewer.. now i can see all perfectly the streaming of the video on teamviewer.. NOW.. i close the lid.. the audio keeps being streamed but NOT the video.. it's like if the graphic card doesn't transmit any output anymore.. this thing would not happen in my previous laptops.. the screen would still go black but i could still operate on my pc via teamviewer with the lid closed.
I have no clue how to solve this and if it's actually possible on this laptop.. all my drivers are super up to date with no conflict whatsoever and it's something i've been noticign since i bought this pc though ( more than 1 month ago) i just never bothered to see how to solve it
thank you very much for your imputs!

ps. i posteed this in graphic card because i think it might be releated to my monitor/ graphic card.. i hope it' s the right section

Go to power settings > Your power plan > Settings > Advanced Settings. You will find a handful of options in a small window, just go through them and you'll find something similar to: "Action when closing the lid", and set it to "sleep" or "hibernate". That should do the trick!

wait.. i have that thing set to " do nothing" if i set it to sleep or hibernate.. i'll just have my laptop go into hibernation or sleep.. i don't want that.. i just want my laptop to stay on with my monitor still working when i close the lid..

Ah my bad! I thought you wanted the system to entirely sleep when just closing the lid.
I honestly don't know - I once had to do the same thing, when I left the laptop overnight to install updates. The "Close lid action" was set to "sleep" (it worked properly all the time) and I just changed it to "do nothing". Now when I close the lid, the screen goes off but everything remains on. All I need to do is press any key and the screen is on again.

guys thank you very much for your answers but maybe i explained myself wrong.
My computer does NOT go to sleep or hibernate when i close the lid, it's just my GPU that stops transmitting the signal to the monitor.
to let you understand i made this example of teamviewer: i connect teamviewer to my pc, i stream some youtube video, when i close the lid, i cannot see the youtube video anymore on my teeamviewer client on my ipad, but i can still hear the sound. the pc is still running if i take the lid back up it's everything back to normal.. the problemi s a specific one about my screen getting turned off or something but my pc is indeed still running and everything

I think I understand you now.
Your problem is more complicated than it sounds. I don't think there is a way to force the screen to "stay on" even with the lid closed, as it will automatically turn off when the lid is almost reaching the keyboard area.

Here's a little trick (hoping it works): If you check the function (Fn) key items on your keyboard, there is one which will turn your screen off and keep everything else running. Could you attempt turning the screen off this way (It's Fn+F6 in my Acer laptop) and then close the lid?

Yes .. I tried that too and it doesn't work .. well on my other laptops I don't have this problem , yes the screen goes black BUT the GPU or Idk what is still transmitting things because I can still operate with teamviewer a laptop with lid closed .. I can still do everything .. Instead now on mine I just can't do it

    This sounds very odd.

Can I ask what you are trying to achieve so that we may be able to suggest another solution?

So sharing the files or drives won't be an alternative solution?

You want to physically change something on that laptop through team viewer in a way that can't be done over a network sharing solution?

Have you tried remote desktop connection?

Or other software other than team viewer?

It might be a problem specific to that software?

I did some digging, and it seems like this is hardware related and varies for different laptop model. Since it's hardware related, I don't think direct screen streaming is possible and another solution should be used.

What is the machine you use to stream to, and why can't you leave the lid open with the display off?

I tried it and found this:
With closed lid set to do nothing,
-Connects to computer via team viewer (lid is open).
-Close lid, Teamviewer is still connected, but it won't respond and I can't do anything.
-Open the lid, now it's responsive again and I can carry on.

    THIS is the interesting part:
-I close the lid again, but this time everything works. The screen is even black.
-I disconnect from TeamViewer and reconnect again, and it works! Even while the lid was still closed and the screen black. I tried watching a video and it worked, even with the screen still black.

Also I need to ask, but is this to stream games and such over the internet, or do you want to do so on your homes network? Because using teamviewer will be laggy for games and videos, even with fiber internet. If you just need it at home tho, there are other solutions we can use.

no just from being at home
nice, i knew it was not a specific problem of mine.. what is your system?
i suspect it's something related to laptops g sync panels..
i tried your experiment too and it works for me like that..
I tried also on splashtop but in that case the screen goes always non operative...
surely something must be going on but i dont have the knowledge to fix this..

It's an Asus rog GL552vw on Win 10. Also, what do you mean by "i tried your experiment too and it works for me like that.."? It works for you too?

Edit: also if you do it at home, look into "steam in-home streaming". They don't especially mention it, but I hear it's compatible with pretty much any games, even non-steam games.

weird.. then it's not g sync the problem.. i wish i was tech enough to understand what is the issue.. but surely it's not a specific issue of my pc.. must be the hardware of some panels.. i don't know...

It's probably more to do with the laptop shutting off the screen to save battery or screen life. It might be a mechanical switch built into the hinge or a magnetic sensor.

    Perhaps message MSI and ask.

But as above, there are other less laggy ways to stream games in your house on other screens that won't matter if the laptop is on or off.

I can access my computers files on my laptop from my phone, including video's, spreadsheets and documents and pdf's, music. I don't use it for games, but I can stream games from this laptop to my other laptop.

I use a laptop with screen closed and access it with Windows built in Remote Desktop Connection. Works great. Doesn't work with TeamViewer.
