Hello peeps. I just installed an ATI 4670 in my laptop and can't figure out how to overclock it. ATI tool has a problem called kernal mode driver or something and won't report the clock speeds as a result and neither GPU tools, or ATI tray tools or rivatuner seem to work either.
Do I need to install a particular driver or do something in a particular order to get this card to overclock. It runs fine at stock clocks - 675 mhz / 800 mhz with no more than 45C on load. Never owned an ATI card till now so a little in the dark![]()
I simply used the ati cataclyst centre thing download the latest driver I assume so maybe I need an older one?
Cheers all!![]()

Use Rivatuner. See this website http://twisted-reviews.com/overclocking-ati-mobility-radeon-hd4570-hd4650-hd4670/
hope it helps -
As melthd stated, you're going to want to use Riva Tuner and then on top of that you're going to want to follow these simple instructions (scroll down a bit to _hiVe's post) to get Riva Tuner to see your card. I just got done with the same process and completed a nice overclock.

Any reason you don't want to use ATI's official tool for doing so?

You could give this a try:
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/overview.htm
If that doesn't work, you might have to flash the BIOS clocks. -
The official tool doesn't work on my system. Not sure if its due to 64 bit.

oh lol at my stupidity and denseness at times...i was using a VERY old version, i think 0. somthing Beta from my old desktop's Radeon X1550.
but i still prefer Rivatuner because you can use OC profiles, which is useful for saving power when on battery or high performance when gaming. -

Awesome thanks Pitabred the AMD GPU clock tool works great! Now to start cranking this baby up.
Thanks to everyone else too for your input I really had/have no clue about ATI cards lol as have always had nvidia up to this point. -
fire up Vantage and show us some scores!

Thanks for this info ppl!
Now i was able to oc my 5650 to a 5730 speed with np at all on my dell 1749!
thanks agian! -

Ain't got vantage but have 3dmark06 score so far with 800 mhz core 900mhz memory with temps peaking at 60C. Scores 8607 points with CPU at stock 3ghz.
Also it is stable with ATI tool.
Pretty sure there is plenty left in the bank to crack 9000 points easilyThanks again Pitabred and everyone for showing me how to OC
-
800 on the gpu core, nice one!
Would that also work with a 5650? -

@@ you make me jealous man!! how did you get such a powerful OC?? Or is it just that my chip isn't so good? i crash at 740 core and artifact at 900 memory.

@ King of Interns: im curious if u are using an external cooling pad or something like that for the extra needed cooling and if u could pls post some pics as to your max recorded temps after ~1 hour of gaming. second, for how long have u kept that 800/900 OC up and running and has it been stable since ?
Personaly, i managed to take it to 780/900, run 3dmark vantage and get a 3067 GPU score (only ran the GPU test), with a max recorded temp of 68C. problem is it became unstable while running C&C4 to test it out a couple of minutes later.
PS: i have the 4670 with 1gb ddr3, not the 512mb one. -

I can play stably at up to 830mhz core and 985.5mhz memory, however in furmark that core speed was just a tad bit unstable so I now game at 800mhz/985.5mhz permanently. It makes almost no difference to performance anyway as the performance is memory bandwidth limited. Having 1GB memory is a bit of a disadvantage for you as you will have 4 extra memory modules on the back of the card probably that don't have any active cooling. I get about 70C after playing crysis for an hour and I don't use any extra cooling. I get 3448 in vantage see here for more benches and temps after running these tests; http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=476759

Nice oc, i own a SXPS 1640 with a mobilty 3670 and i managed to get it up to 810 core & 860 memory (its about 85% more power/FPS on my testings, for ex. on crysis 24 fps on very high 800x600 VS with OC i get 41 fps), i also get 11,000 points on 3dmark 05, im sure that with AMD GPU CLOCK TOOL u can manage to get the hell out a 4670 MUCH more, at least with a good cpu (i5, i7), a 1333 mhz memory, at least 200 mhz more than default clocks, just try to go up 50 mhz on each and see how its going, also on my side temperatures DONT raise too much, after hours of playing crysis (with no additional cooling) i get around 76° on the video card and cpus dont ever reach 75°, so its pretty damn good if you tell me, i also tried some more oc apps and none of them have worked as the amd gpu clock tool (the only working version for me is the 0.7), feel free to email me for some support, i would be happy to help reach a killer oc on the 4670 wich i might get soon..
