I'm trying to flash Prema's 980M VBIOS for my Clevo P651SG but am encountering this error message when trying to create a backup of my stock VBIOS using GPU-Z. Anyone know how to solve this?

I think there is a way to save it using NVFLASH. Something on the lines of "-save filename.rom".

Im not too sure, so please double check this.

indeed, you have to use NVFLASH to save the vBIOS...

OK cool thanks everyone. I remember doing it by GPU-Z last time around, I guess NVIDIA has blocked that via drivers or something like that.

I'll try NVFLASH. Thanks again :)

Another quick question if I may. Whether I keep the GPU enabled or disabled in device manager I'm getting the following error message:

I believe that you need to do the flash in a DOS, not a Windows environment.

You might need to disable your graphics card from the device manager.

just curious.. what will you gain from using prema's gpu vbios? will it increase clock speed? or you will now be able to over clock gpu? Thanks..

Prevents GPU throttling under normal load and of course and unlocked OC capability...

Depends on the reseller/company you got it from. The Clevo Reseller I got it from (Eurocom) does not care about modded vBIOSes and BIOSes since they are an official Prema Partner Shop.

If you give the system back with that vBIOS flashed ,then yes. Otherwise you can get away with it.

Mythlogic doesn't mind, and I believe neither does Sager. I actually up-front told Myth I was going to use svl7's vBIOS because I was getting artifacting at 120Hz and they said "ok, cool!"

That kind of flashing is only useful up until Kepler cards. Maxwell cards cannot be flashed like that, as far as I know. And neither Pascal.

As for backing up the vBIOS, maybe it might work, but don't be surprised if that one doesn't.

NVFlash had to be modified. You run the flasher in windows. Disable the GPU via Device Manager and run the flash then reboot (though I believe the flasher should do the disabling for you, but since I've no Maxwell cards and never tried a Maxwell card, I don't really know).

Actually my sisters have 965Ms... I could probably use their N155RFs as test monkeys.

I'm surprised as I was able to backup the vBIOS using the NVFlash.. on my 970M.. Just use a older version which Svl7 has... Look on techinferno for his vBIOS flashing guide..

Isn't that what the VGA BIOS collection on TPU is for?

Did anyone solved the mistery of how to backup the vbios? I am facing the same issue with GPU-Z, NVFlash for DOS, Windows, Prema modified etc. My laptop is HP Zbook 15 G3 using Quadro M2000M.

I disabled the card, tried with --protectoff, but nothing works. Vbios can not be dumped.

    Thanks

Whilst saving stock vBIOS use safe mode and stock nvflash. When flashing Premamod's vBIoS use modded nvflash with certificate bypass version to flash it.

Which stock version of NVFlash? I tried several stock (including safe mode) but all output the same message. Thank you.

Did that (in my first post). The result is the same.

There must be some sort of protection. Thank you anyway.

worst case: buy a programmer and read the EEPROM chip :)

    The options are:
    - legacy support enable & secure boot disable
    - legacy support disable & secure boot enable
    - legacy support disable & secure boot disable

The first is the default and the only one bootable. I can not boot with the other two. I am guessing that boot disk is created with MBR and not GPT.

I guess I should try windows 10 and GPT.

Yes, that would be perfect. I would like to see if I can find a solution because NVFlash seems to access the chip. Just can not read the firmware image.

If I fail then there will be no alternative but programmer.

    Thank you both.

It does - I've flashed my 980M many times and the flasher did the disabling. I could also save the original vBIOS via GPU-Z.

I forgot to provide an update. Thanks to Valuxin's kind help I realized that the vBios is in the sBios of HP Zbook.
