I recently (today) got an e1505 and it lists its memory as:

    Memory: 256mb
    Type: Hypermemory

Nowhere in the XP system information or the catalyst drivers does it show how much is dedicated and how much is system ram. had me thinking that maybe dell shorted things and used all system ram or something.

Anyone know how to determine this?

Okay here is how to check to see how much ram your laptop is using for vram.
1)Go to the start menu and click control panel
    2)Then click display
    3)Click on the settings tab
    4)Then click advanced
    5)Then click the adapter tab

This should show how much ram it is using.

    If it's a 256MB with hypermemory, then you've got a 128MB card.

Did that... although you can get there faster by right clicking on the screen and selecting properties. In any event, it lists the memory as 256mb. No reference to hypermemory on that page.

Yes, your card is 128MB dedicated and 128MB shared. That's how it works in ATI's lineup - they double the amount of dedicated memory.

x1400 will not be able to use 256 dedicated ram effectively anyway so i think its not that big of a difference.
