When i go to options and set it to 4x it only jumps back to off and says i have to restart the game, and when i restart its still off.

How can i enable AA? is there a command line or anything? I refuse to play without AA as this games deeply needs it

I don't know enough about BF2, but is it possible it's just deciding your machine is too slow to run it with AA on and then disabling it automatically? A 7600Go isn't that fast of a card any more, and BF2 is pretty new...

If you are on Vista/7, make sure to set bf2.exe in WinXP compatibility mode, and run it in Administrator mode. With patch v1.5, this shouldn't be the problem, but you never know.

Go to your BF2 profile folder:

    C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

Open the file "Video.con" with Notepad, change the line that says:

    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples

    to

    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 4Samples
    or
    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 8Samples

    Save it and try it.

Thanks, i dont its a performance issue i run it all maxed settings 50-100 FPS so some AA should not make it unplayable at all

The last thing helped now i run 2x AA at 50 FPS all other settings maxed

BF2 doesn't allow forcing AA through anything, the only way to use it is to set it in game. There is a bug though, where you can't change settings sometimes so you can edit the video.con file in my documents and that usually does the trick. Here's all high settings for you to copy.

    VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@60Hz
    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 6Samples
    VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
    VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 2

You cannot apply AA in DX9 mode, neither of the cards in your sig are powerful enough to merit using it anyways.

What exactly is AA and do you think it would work with my setup? I already have everything else maxed out visually.

Also try to make Video.con read-only. This way will never loose your settings.

Anyway anyone is using the latest notebook drivers from nvidia for x64? I mean 197.16... I experienced random Aero crash and unable to play BF2...

    Naw..

He should just force it thru nvidia cpanel though.. should be logical first thing to do.. If his silly 7600 can even run it with AA.

The 7600 go can handle bf2 fine on max with aa, (assuming its the higher speced non 64bit bus one lol.)

No, forcing AA does not work for BF2, in fact it causes it to render no AA.
    is the correct solution.

Pretty sure I read AA only works in DX10 or DX11 so keep that in mind if thats true.

Edit: Narsnail said the same thing on the first page.
