Is there a quick way to determine the bus width of a GPU? The Nvidia GT 740M has a 64-bit version, and a 128-bit version. I'm looking at a laptop that uses that GPU, but I don't know which version it is. Is there a way I can check whether the laptop has the 64-bit version or the 128 version while using the display model in a store? Thanks!

if there is a display model of the laptop you're after and you are able to have a play around, just open the nvidia control panel and click system information in the bottom left corner. all details including the bus width are included there.

Best way to find it is just to search Google for that one. If you buy one, use GPUz to figure out what it's got.

But I would check around first just to make sure you're not gonna get screwed.

Hmm, okay. I will try to do that. I did that with my current laptop (it has a GT 635M), and the system information window didn't show me anything at all...

That's the screenshot. Is there something wrong with my computer/GPU? =\

Yeah, I tried Google, but there seems to be no information for the laptop I'm looking at (Asus K451, a Haswell refresh of the K46CB, I think). I think it's because isn't available everywhere yet.

I did run into this solution before, but I really can't download the software on a store display model. lol, I need to know before I buy the laptop.

Put it on a thumb drive. It doesn't install, it's just a simple executable.

And ACK! Windows 7 Home Basic!? Run away... run far away.

Oh, okay! I'll try that, thanks! :D

Haha, that screenshot was actually from my mom's laptop, not the one I'm gonna get. :p Any idea why nothing shows up in the system information window though?

Hmm, why do you say that? Btw, would there be a big difference in performance between the 64-bit and 128-bit versions?

EDIT: I used the Nvidia control panel to find out the bus width. Turns out, it is indeed 64-bit. Guess you were right, sasuke256. Haha. For reference, the laptop in question was a Asus 451 LB. Thanks for all the help everyone! :D
